There is a pretty interesting article in today's A section of the Post.

It's a pretty good read. It's written by a man called Kevin Sullivan. That may or may not be the reason why.

Or if you have Firefox with BugMeNot installed.
EDIT: Tried using one of those password recovery programs to figure out what the actual password is, but no luck. Firefox must be too smart for that.

Fine little article and some really great photos with neat understated photo captions.

Two things I wrote about the article earlier today were:
I studied poetry translation for a while and so always find the "lucha libre" translated as free fight to be just a shitty translation.

I'd prefer "free-style fighting" or even "free-style struggle" to "free-fight" which fails to understand grammar, word usage, meaning or context.

And the paragraph on "subculture of political activists" is really dated. As the lucha inspired masked champions of social justice, really emerged as a result of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake. Last time I was in Mexico was in mid-nineties.. Post-Subommandante Marcos the idea of Super Barrio style masked political activism....was really dated.

Those would really be my two only objections to the article. Loved all the Mascara Ano Dos Mill quotes and the thing about Cien getting into wrestling from watching it when he was in the US is pretty cool.

This article was reprinted in our local Waterville, Maine paper today. As I was reading it over my bowl of oatmeal, my wife looked over my shoulder at the picture of Porky and said "ewwwww." I thought it was pretty neat to get some exposure for lucha libre up here in the Northeast.
