Weeks after Canseco's book release, it's looking like Rafi Palmeiro's ready to fight back.

Palmeiro issued a statement last month in which he denied he ever used steroids, and he emphatically backed up that assertion Thursday after his first practice of spring training. Palmeiro also said he's considered hiring the law firm of Orioles owner Peter Angelos to take legal action against Canseco.

"The one thing I can say is I have the best law firm and the best lawyer standing in the wings in Peter Angelos," he said. "I have options available for me. He stands behind me and he's ready. I will look at all my options and I'll decide."

If this does goes through, one must wonder who else may be beating the lawsuit drums?

I would say it's a safe bet that no one else would. Partly because they might be lying, but mostly because why bother? If this one lawsuit is successful in ripping apart Canseco's credibility, then everyone else is off the hook by default.

Or it could go the other way, with everyone named in the book short of Ben Grieve getting their licks in on someone who tried (incidentally, if you ask me) to tear down their achievements.

Because Palmeiro has lots of money. Peter Angelso has lots of money and may do it gratis. Canseco obviously is trying to make a buck. Sue Canseco, make Canseco go broke on legal fees or issue a retraction.

"Sue the bastards!" seems to me the generally accepted response to Conseco's book, but how do you prove that you DIDN'T take steroids 5, 10, 15 years ago?

And that's one of the reasons most people will probably not take legal action.

Lawsuits might not be coming to stop Canseco from pushing his book but this is: Death Threats!
