As they were setting up to reveal who the newest inductee would be for this year's HoF, I was thinking, who could it be? Bob Backlund? Mean Gene Okerlund? The British Bulldogs? Surely not Bret Hart? Even if Bret does agree to it, surely they will save him for last (unless Hogan's in this year as well). I had postulated two weeks ago that with Bob Orton in this year's crop, Roddy Piper would make perfect sense, but there was some doubt about that due to Piper's involvement with TNA. And then.. and then... I heard the dulcet sound of bagpipes, and I, quite frankly, MARKED OUT!

Piper was my favourite for years when I was a kid. I can't wait for his speech. With Piper in the mix, it makes me seriously wonder if they will be including Hogan this year. Piper's long feud with Hogan was certainly instrumental in helping to establish Hogan in his role as Champion (and as the face of pro-werstling). Hogan didn't get famous dropping that leg on Rusty Brooks (no offence, Russ).

And if Vince is overlooking Piper's involvement with TNA, does that mean the door could open for the Macho Man, as well?

In this week's Raw thread, Matt Tracker has pointed out all the inductees this year (so far) are bad guys. Here's some potential face candidates, I figure: Ricky Steamboat, Wendy Richter, Hillbilly Jim, and c'mon, can I get whoop-whoop for Jimmy Powers?

Some further heels: King Kong Bundy, Ted Dibiase, Jake Roberts...

Possible Posthumous inductees: Yokozuna, Hercules Hernandez, Road Warrior Hawk, Mr. Perfect...

Some unlikely but more or less deserving names: Bruno Sanmartino, Ultimate Warrior, Ivan Koloff (unlikely if only because Volkoff is on the list this year).

And finally, under "that'll be the day, but it would make my day": Iron Mike Sharpe.

To my way of thinking, the HoF is one of things about this fake sport that is actually real. It's about showing respect for the people who came before, who made this business what it was, gave us some good memories, and in doing so, helped to build the business into what it is today.

And on the other hand there's always Pete Rose.

I'd consider Piper more of a face than a heel....but I guess I remember him most from his early to mid '90's days in the WWF.

I marked out in a big fuckin' way, too. And yeah, the first time I became aware of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper was when he was in WCW confronting Hogan and becoming the commissioner and such, so...

I wonder if his name will disappear for the TNA's website listing of superstars.

I'm still holding my breath for Hogan. He & Piper should go in together.

If they provide a warm meal, I'm sure Mr. T would appear.
Since it appears Vince is trying to get as many of the original Mania members in on the 20th anniversary, where are Windham and Rotundo?
And, am I the only one slightly afraid that if Hogan ends up getting inducted this year, either he will face Piper at Mania, or they will re-do the original Mania Main Event?

RODDY FREAKIN PIPER!!! I marked out huge, I always loved hearing the bagpipes playing (Minus his last run but I'm pretending that never happened). I'd say he will have the best speech of the night.

Funny you mention that ... the first thing I thought of when they announced Piper was "hmm, that's three of the five WMI Main Event participants; Hogan would make four." I'd start getting suspicious if Bob Orton somehow "breaks his arm" in the next few weeks.

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking that if Piper's in, Hogan's out? I just can't imagine those two egos sharing the same stage again (their awful 2003 run notwithstanding).

I'm really stoked that Piper made in -- moreso than even if Hogan was/is announced -- but can you imagine the acceptance speech? Vince had best have one of those long canes ready backstage to grab him in case he gets out of hand....

I'm surprised Steamboat isn't in the mix. He's working for the company now and the first thing I thought of when that news came out was that he's a lock for the HoF this year. Of course, they did say more inductees would be announced, so there's still time.

And I'd mark out for a Hogan/T v Piper/Orndorff match at WM 21.

Yeah, I was reasonably excited for Mania just for the HHH/Batista and Angle/Michaels matches. But now I'm more excited for Piper's acceptance speech than anything else on the card.

Last year was the time to induct Piper, Orndorff, Orton and Hogan, they should've all went in together since it was the first time they did the HOF since 96 i think. I want to things as acceptance speeches; Piper going insane while sober. And Orton wearing a cast.
