This weekend would've been the yearly All-Star Break, filled with hope for the playoffs and a celebration of the half-season already finished.
Instead, it's Day 150-something of the lockout and both sides STILL aren't talking, let alone compromising, and the season is expected to be called early next week. Considering that arenas have been using a 45-day rolling cancellation strategy (meaning that you cancel all games booked at your arena for a 45-day window ahead of each day) that means that as of Sunday, most (if not all) games until March 30th are done with already...that means that if the lockout lasts until February 25th (or so), the whole damn season would've been cancelled anyways.

If by some miracle they sign something today (which I doubt will happen) then most remaining games could be back within a week once whatever training camp they wanted to have was over.
I was just hoping for a new deal so that they can start the new season off in October next year instead of February. I couldn't care less if they want to have a two month season, I just don't want to go through the same garbage next year since it doesn't look like they'll be talking until at least December if this year is a wash.

(*Bitterness NOT a result of having my NHL '05 Avalanche lose Peter Forsberg in the playoffs, helping them to reach the brink of elimination after achieving the league's best regular season record, just like it happened with Joe Sakic in my NHL '04 season. Nope. Not at all.) | Tribal Prophet

It is absolutely ridiculous that the owners & the players have allowed this to happen and with no deadline pressure, there is really no reason for either side to start talking again until September. I fully expect the 2005-06 season to take a hit as well. I'm disgusted. | BWT
