For those of you that are my age and grew up on Nickelodeon in the early 90's, TVShowsondvd.com is reporting that Nick is putting out DVD's entitled "Rewind Collection", and includes season sets of "Salute Your Shorts," "Clarissa Explains It All," "You Can't Do That On Television," "Are You Afraid Of The Dark," and "The Adventures of Pete and Pete." Clarissa is the first title to be released, on May 17th.

One word- awesome.

I'm assuming that the other cool shows will only show up if "Clarissa" is successful. Not sure if I'd buy "Clarissa", but I'd definately pick up "You Can't Do That on Television" if it came out, and maybe "Salute Your Shorts". I'm sure I'm the only one who loved "Welcome Freshmen", so I guess I'll simply wish for that pipe dream.

A question though: Does Nick even own the rights to "You Can't Do That on Television"? Wasn't it "imported" (so to speak) from Canada?

I too enjoyed Welcome Freshmen. I don't, however, remember whether I liked it enough to shell out money for it on DVD.

Now all I need is Rocko's Modern Life, and I'll be set.

To see "You Can't Do That On Television," even just for nostalgia sake, would be so awesome. I don't care if it doesn't hold up, I just remember loving it so much as a kid.

Sweet, I loved Salute Your Shorts. I wonder if they will release on DVD that show called Fifteen, it was like a generic 90210 on Nickelodeon. That show was unintentionally hilarious.

This is awesome news. My friends and I still refer to episodes and characters from Salute Your Shorts to this day. Plus, having a Pete & Pete DVD means I could free up the 9+ gigs of space on my hard drive that are currently devoted to episodes of it.

Amen to that. A good chunk of my DVR is loaded with episodes that never came out on VHS that I don't want to lose.

One more vote for buying the YCDTOTV set. I need my young Alanis fix :)

I am saddened at the lack of love for "Hey Dude!" and "Roundhouse".

But DIZAMN! I want Salute Your Shorts and Pete & Pete. Maybe even Clarissa since I watched that pretty much all the time as well.

All I have to say is, PIPE!

I agree about Hey Dude. Another one of my favorite shows. I've been trying to remember how the theme song went all day.

But seriously, Roundhouse?

I would pay fifty dollars for a Roundhouse DVD.

Reprise the theme song and roll the credits!

Off the top of my head..

It's a little wild and a little strange
When you make your home out on a range
Start your horse and come along
But you can't get a ride if you can't hold on

Singing, yippee ti yi yay (yippie ti yi what?)
Like the cowboys say (sing it again now!)
Yippee ti yi yay (get along little doggy)
'Til the break of day

Better watch out for those man-eating jack rabbits
And that killer cacti
Hey dude!

A friend of mine has the whole series on tape. I never realized that Danny (Joe Torres, the American Indian character) was quite possibly the worst actor of all time. Buddy Ernst wasn't exactly an award-winner either.

Not to dampen everybody's spirits, but...

The Clarissa Explains It All - Season 1 compilation in May will be on 2 DVDs, and run 328 minutes for 13 episodes. Paramount Home Entertainment will distribute this title. If this set is successful, we hope it will lead to further "Rewind Collection" releases for many of the other Nick shows named above.

So not only are the other series not a lock, they're just a pipe dream at this point. Which sucks...I've been jonesing for some YCDTOTV.

Oh yeah, well I counter with this:

Just the other day we were very pleased to bring you the announcement that Clarissa Explains It All - Season 1 was that start of something cool: Nickelodeon's "Rewind Collection" of DVDs from early classic shows.

Now Nick and distributor Paramount Home Entertainment are pleased to announce the second title in the Rewind Collection: The Adventures of Pete & Pete - Season 1.

The Adventures of Pete & Pete was a surreal comedy in which a peaceful suburban neighborhood was a strange and skewed world as seen through the eyes of pre-teens. Wellsville, USA contained many different unique characters, such as: two brothers that were both named Pete, their mom who had a metal plate in her head, Artie the spandex-wearing super-hero, and Petunia, little Pete's tattoo. The Adventures of Pete and Pete originated as a series of one-minute vignettes (shorts) in 1990, then was expanded into a series of five specials, and then became a regular weekly series in late 1993 for three seasons. There is still a strong Pete & Pete fan base that has submitted an on-line petition to Nickelodeon to put Pete & Pete on DVD, with 3800 signatures to date.

Not to mention enough votes for the show here at TVShowsOnDVD to put the show at position #84 among our most-requested shows not yet released to DVD! And 98% of our voters wanted season sets...and that's indeed what you get. On May 17th (the same date as the Clarissa release), this hits stores on a 2-disc set that runs 292 minutes. All 8 episodes from the first season are present, of course. No word yet on whether any of the vignettes or specials that preceded that season are going to be included, but stay tuned. We'll keep you posted if we find out anything.

I too am on the list (probably a short list) of those who want Hey Dude. Granted, I was probably a bit older than I should have been when watching the show, but damn if I wasn't addicted to coming home from High School and watching it every day. Yeah, I was a loser.

How can they *not* put out a show that features Ben Stiller's wife?!?!

YCDTOTV and Pete and Pete are the only two I'd really want. Pete's coming out, so let's hope for the YCDTOTV release soon. I LIVED for that show. But once Lisa Ruddy and Moose and Vanessa and Alistair left, it just wasn't the same. If it were to come out in seasons, though, I'd definately get the first and second seasons. Maybe the third as well.
