Is anybody out there watching this show? It's been getting a lot of press lately now that Kevin Smith, and Jason Mewes are on the show. I have watched it for awhile, and I think it's really good, not as good as original Degrassi, but nothing will compare to that show. Just wondering what you all think of this show?

Kinda hard to get into it down here, for the network showing it (The N, AKA Noggin) takes some liberties with the scheduling (they've been on winter break since December). However, it's a DAMN good series. Now all that needs to happen is The N coming to its senses and airing Accidents Will Happen (two-part episode where Manny gets an abortion).
Hadn't seen the original, so I don't know about all the tie-ins (which is also how Kevin Smith came to be all about it). So I'm relying on those of you who GOT it on PBS to fill me in.

The first season did nothing for me, but as they matured into the second year the show really came around. I think part of that is the increased reliance on the old cast (particularly Joey) and the integration of newer, better characters (like Craig.) Watching drama rain down upon Emma is always fun as well, the smarmy little git.
Two things stand out about Degrassi: TNG. First, they can be HARSH. The best example is the end of "Take My Breath Away", where Craig verbally smacks Manny and they fade hard to the card credits *just like that*. This show doesn't screw around.
Second, the production values are quite high. Most American series like this are shot on the cheap (think Saved By The Bell and its shoddy sets and sitcom style blocking.) Degrassi, meanwhile, looks better than many US dramas; it easily trumps anything we've put out in this country for the young folk.
The N screws with me by stopping and starting, so I can hardly keep up with it...and it's not exactly high on my list of priorities. Still, for the audience it's made for and the subject matter it addresses, it's damn good.
