My favorite Ossie Davis (imdb.com) movie was Gladiator (cheesy movie with Cuba Gooding circa 1992 about underground boxing), and to me, the guy just had a Morgan Freeman-type air about him that made him enjoyable to watch in pretty much anything. Among my faves of his: -His great run on Evening Shade (alongside the dearly departed Michael Jeter) -Performing his eulogy of Malcolm X in Spike Lee's biopic of him -And, of course, playing a black JFK in an old folks' home in Bubba Ho-Tep. | Parts Unknown

Hey man, there's no shame in having love for Gladiator. That's one of my favorite guilty pleasure films. | Scooter Trash

I think this would be as good of time as any to check out several other movies that he has either acted in or directed.

I, too, heart Bubba Ho-Tep. And Evening Shade (Odd, I was just talking about that show the other day to my wife). I wonder if that'll ever pop up on Nick at Nite/TVLand sometime? I mean, if Murphy Brown is old enough to qualify now...
