Turner Compares Fox's Popularity to Hitler
By Jim Finkle -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/25/2005 2:14:00 PM
Ted Turner called Fox a propaganda tool of the Bush administration and indirectly compared Fox News Channel's popularity to Adolf Hitler's popular election to run Germany before World War II.
Turner made those fiery comments in his first address at the National Association for Television Programming Executives' conference since he was ousted from Time Warner Inc. five years ago.
The 66-year-old billionaire, who leveraged a television station in Atlanta into a media empire, made the comment before a standing-room-only crowd at NATPE's opening session Tuesday.
His no-nonsense, sometimes humorous, approach during the one-hour Q&A generated frequent loud applause and laughter.
Fox wasn't laughing, however. "Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network, and now his mind," said a Fox News spokesperson. "We wish him well."

I love Ted Turner because I want to be him. I also love the FOX spokesman because he *also* wasn't afraid to use exaggeration to make me laugh. | Promote this thread! | | A Fan

Fox News makes no bones about being the conservative network they proudly admitted in front of Congress, a few years ago. Fox News is a propagenda machine, the same as Farnhiet 9/11. Its just they don't own up to it unless it helps them out ie in front of Republican Congress.
The Fox News' comment was cute, but it does come off as the same smarmy Fox News' comment they have given out since the 2000 election.
"We are fair and balance and other than networks can't handle that."
"But you admitted in front of the world, you take a slant against the Democrates, how balanced is that?"
"Oh Shut up, we are Fox News, deal with it or we will carpet bomb you with more Cheney and Rice interviews."
I think people like Fox News, because it is a conservative slant something that is kinda new, I just don't believe in the liberal biasis as whole. There are some newspapers in certain areas that are liberal, some that are conservative, but as a whole its fairly biting to both sides. The Republicans just do a great job of scapegoating the media. In the end, I don't think anyone can really stand up and honestly say Fox News hasn't helped propocate the Bush Administration. | BigSteve

It's also pretty sad that these people are (seemingly) completely ignorant to what Hitler was all about when they say these things.
Of course, when Ted Turner's CNN is getting its ass kicked by Fox News, what do you expect?
And yeah, maybe Fox News is right-wing and pro-Bush. I'll certainly concede that if you want. But their propaganda FOR Bush, doesn't even begin to match the propaganda AGAINST Bush in most other media outlets. In fact, Fox News is one of the few mainstream media outlets that is conservative.
And journalists are generally more liberal than the general populace. I'm not sure why you don't believe in the liberal media. | CRZ

Well...I don't know about that, because "propocate" doesn't mean anything.

The only sane mind on that channel at this point is Alan Colmes...something I thought I would never believe - at least not since 1992ish, when he had the most brilliant show on radio.
Watching things unfold day to day will give you a heart attack - much like watching (or hearing anyone talk about) the Stock Market. But one thing is always consistent - the American public loves to create idols and then turn their backs on them. Satellite Radio will be the decider of the next election, as most of the "free speech" for the common man will be so diluted by the time it hits O'Reilly, Hannity, the moron talking heads, Rupert and Clear Channel - people will turn...and viciously.

| #13 Posted on 25.1.05 2005.16 Reposted on: 25.1.12 2005.46 | Now, with regard to Fox and Ted.
Obviously, Ted still has some vested interest in CNN over fox since the majority of his Billionairiness is in Time Warner stock.
First, let's consider the source. Ted's about 10 steps to the left of Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd.
He whips out Hitler on a regular basis. Look here: http://www.newsmax.com/cgi-bin/showinside.pl?a=2003/5/18/182717 for another "Fox is Hitler" reference (this time aimed specifically at Murdoch.).
His ranches (http://www.americanprowler.com/article.asp?art_id=2002_4_9_23_17_4) are a mix of teeming capitalism and environmentalist whachoism. (The incredible bias of the article nonwithstanding).
Yeah, Fox skews conservative. In the same way CNN skews liberal. Example: I worked at home today and saw segments on both CNN and Fox of acadamy award "leftouts" CNN showed 1 minute of F-911 clips and one 3 second clip from Passion. Fox showed about 1/3 F-911 and 2/3 Passion clips for about the same time period. (My local station pretty much evened it out)

That is too funny.
I've always really liked Turner (he of the ilk that speak their mind, PC be damned,) and it pisses me off when he makes asinine statements like this - it makes him look quite the loon. Can you make parallels between Goebbels and Fox News? Eh, perhaps slightly, but why drag out the swastika? It isn't exactly Godwin's Law (since this isn't the internet...uh, well this is, but not Turner...you know what I mean) but it's much the same: make your analogies without a reference to the horrors of Nazi Germany. Afterall, even the staunchest critics of Bush 43 won't claim he desires the extermination of six million liberals.

I hope FOX News blows up their own headquarters, then blames it on Keith Olberman.
And, even with all the publicity such an explosion would get for Olberman and thus MSNBC, they still would get lower ratings than cable access shows. On Ted Turner: Ted was the one dumb enough to agree to sell off Turner Broadcasting to Time Warner, and was still around for the hideous AOL merger, so if he wants to blame anyone for CNN going into the tank and his fortune crumbling, the mirror should be the first place to look. Besides, for providing Larry King a prime time home for 2 decades on a news channel, Ted deserves any torture imaginable. | CRZ
