| #1 Posted on 25.1.05 0905.38 Reposted on: 25.1.12 0906.49 | I'll start 'er off with two pertinent bits of info:
1.) According to this SuperBowl.com page, the Eagles get to pick what jerseys they wear. If they go with the green or black home gear, that'll put New England in road whites for only the 2nd time in their 5 Super Bowls (wore red homes vs. CHI in Super Bowl XX, and wore the home blues vs. StL in '01 and vs. CAR last year.)
(EDIT: Holy crap! The below post is correct: I totally forgot about Super Bowl XXXI, and the Packers actually winning the world title against white-clad Pats in 1996. In my own defense...let's just say the Packers haven't exactly been re-kindling world championship-caliber memories lately.)
2.) The Eagles organization oughta be ashamed of this Flash intro on their home page. Yeesh! What...was The Cheat not available to make 'em one?
And...discuss.

This is actually New England's 5TH Super Bowl, and they wore white for Super Bowl XXXI when they lost in the Super Bowl to...
I'm not going to say who they lost to in Super Bowl XXXI, but let me just say I am very very VERY disappointed in you right now. :-P

1.) SI is reporting that the Pats QB was bedridden with a 103-degree fever the night before the AFC title game, fighting off chills with an IV stuck in his non-throwing left arm.
Yet in 11-degree weather, dude still throws for 14/21, 207 yds and 2 TDs w/o any picks. Whoa.
2.) Dude is also suing General Motors for using his likeness after his deal w/ GM expired.

Hey, I've got a Brady jersey, too. And I plan on wearing it on my trip to New Orleans this weekend. (I plan on acting like a dumb tourist who thought the Super Bowl was in New Orleans this year. By the way, if any experienced W's know of good, CHEAP places to go in New Orleans, please let me know. This is my first visit.) I love the Pats and I hope Brady has a great game....
...And I hope the Pats get wiped. Don't get me wrong. I love the Pats. True good TEAMS like them deserve all the success they get. It's just New England that I hate. If the Pats win, I can't wait to watch the New England fans just blow them off when MLB spring training hits. How come the areas that don't deserve winners in "secondary" sports always get them??? | Whitebacon

Well, that's not always true.
The Bulls dominance of the early nineties was great, but the Cubs, White Sox, and Bears weren't in the playoffs.
Up until recently, the only Boston sports team that had glory years were the Celtics, who are currently the only major team in Boston who aren't World Champeens (weird, huh).
The Seahawks didn't even get respectable as Playoff losers until after both the Mariners and the Sonics had their stints as Playoff losers.
In Texas, the Spurs didn't win their title until the Astros, Rangers, and Cowboys crapped out, and the damn Oilers up and left. The Rockets and the Mavericks, by the way, have dumb names.
Going to Wisconsin, when's the last time you heard of a winning Brewers or Bucks team? In fact, all the love goes to Green Bay, with no love for Milwaukee.
And lastly, New York. Yeah, they have the Yankees, but that leaves the Mets, the Jets, the Giants, and the Knicks. Giants won it in '92, and the Mets in '86, but the Yanks sucked then.
And as you've noticed, I omitted the NHL, if only because the NHL has omitted the NHL.
(EDIT: Oh, yes, the Knicks. Short for Knickerbocker. Worst team name in sports.)

True dat. Everybody always says Milwaukee crowds at Lambeau (home games #2 and #6 every year, to make up for leaving County Stadium after 1994) are quieter than Green Bay crowds.
The Bucks made the NBA Eastern Conference Finals in...what was it, 2000? And even then, interest around Titletown only went up a bit. (Dick Bennett taking the Badgers to the Final Four a few years back got more love.)
As for the Brew Crew...outside of huge attendance in Miller Park's first year, attitudes up here are back towards apathy. Although their statewide winter caravan, which I loved as a kid, does draw really well in Green Bay (WBAY-TV)...at the same place my folks had their wedding reception. (Yes, they had a polka band.)
EDITS:
a) YOU DAMN RIGHT, Whitebacon! There's growing momentum for the return of the UW-Eau Claire-student-designed logo seen below...I know I've covered that in a thread here and here before.
b) Hey, back to football: Good idea, Freddie Mitchell, motivate the Pats' defense some more. (ESPN) "I'd like to thank my hands for being so great?" Ye gods.

Silly how ESPN has been playing this, but if I were an Eagles fan, I'd be somewhat worried. I wouldn't want to hear that the team I'm rooting for can't even identify the opposition, especially when the opposition has a reputation for being the best-prepared team in the league. Andy Reid oughta smack these guys.
But, thankfully, I live in Pats country.

| #20 Posted on 29.1.05 0252.40 Reposted on: 29.1.12 0259.01 | As an Eagles fan, I have to say that Freddy is an idiot. I used to like Freddie's 'title belt' motion after a big play, but once (I think during last years Green Bay playoff game), the Eagles were in a rush, and Freddy got a first down and instead of rushing back to the line of scrimmage did his belt motion and (though it didn't ultimately matter) it was irritating. He's had his recieving moments (4th & 26), but as Rodney Harrison pointed out, Freddie's only a starter because Owens went down. He should not be talking smack.
Then again, I've only the faintest glimmer of hope that the Eagles can win. I have a feeling this quote, like Vanderjagt's comments before the Indy game, are going to come back to bite Freddie in the ass. I'm thinking this will rally the Patriots enough such that if the Eagles had a chance of keeping it close before, now its going to be a blow out. Oh well.
As for Mitchell not knowing who does what on the Pats, its possible that he doesn't need to know the names. So long as he knows the tendencies of each number, the name is irrelevant. However, I don't think that's what Mitchell was referring to.
There was talk prior to Owens injury that Mitchell might not be brought back next year. His performance thus far has probably helped his cause, but now I'm wondering if he's worth it. How's McMullen developing? |
