Prompted by CRZs pic on the mainpage at slash, I was wondering if anyone has heard much about The Scorpion King since the re-shoots, ie whether it supposedly still sucks or not, or maybe if anyone has been lucky enough to see it already (through connections or whatnot). I've had a look around the net but I can only seem to locate promotional fluff at best.
I'll still go and see it regardless, as I thought The Mummy Returns was cheese, but quality cheese (if you see what I mean).
Ah, who am I kidding? I'll go and see it because the Rock is in it. .

How come the Rock's character speaks English in this movie, when he didn't speak it in TMR? I mean, it would be a horrible waste if he had to get subtitled the whole movie, but I am wondering if they will explain it.

Well I would presume everyone in the movie is supposed to be speaking some ancient Egyptian dialect, and we're just getting the translated version.

From the ad blitz, here is my guess:
1) The movie is still pretty bad, therefore; 2) The studio hits us with a ton of hype; 3) In order to get $100 million out of this baby in the first weekend, before word spreads about how not good the film is.

Obviously Im a big fan of the Rock so I have high hopes for the movie. I think it could be decent, if not awesome. From what I understand they are not asking Rock to do a whole lot in this movie. Theyve got experienced actors to make up for his inexperience, like Micheal Clarke Duncan. I think it could work, Rock has charisma and presence, and that can get you a long way. I try to ignore Hollywood buzz and rumors. The media buzz said Titanic would flop big time.A billion dollars and a few Oscars later... Ditto for Matrix. So Im going to see it the day it opens with my fingers crossed.

My morning newspaper of choice, The Chicago Sun Times, had a write up about the ScorpKing on Monday. They were extremely kind to it, saying it was very tongue in cheek at a lot of points and everybody who saw it seemed to like it. If it be one-linerish enough to keep the women who go see it, A) for bare chested rock and B) because next weekend it's their movie choice in their relationship, entertained, and have enough action to please the BANGBOOM! crowd, I think it could have $250 mil potential domestic.

Entertainment Weekly has been very optimistic with everything they've said about the movie so far. Usually they just rip everything to shreds.
I saw a preview for the movie during TSN's broadcast at RAW, and at the end they said that advanced tickes were on sale now at Famous Players. This would leave me to believe that they are expecting a big opening weekend.
Regardless of the quality of the movie, it stars The Rock, and WWF fans always come out in droves for anything the WWF is attached to. It shouldn't have any trouble making money.
