Involving the Knicks, Heat, Raptors and Wolves

http://www.tnt.tv/Title/Display/0,5918,579746,00.html

=================================
According to TNT Analyst David Aldridge there has been talk of a four way trade involving Toronto, New York, Miami and Minnesota, four maximum sized contracts exchanging zip codes.

According to the report Minnesota would receive Heat guard Eddie Jones and Toronto forward Donyell Marshall, Miami would receive Wolf Latrell Sprewell, the Knicks would receive disgruntled guard Jalen Rose while the Raptors receive often injured guard Anfernee 'Penny' Hardaway, who has one less year remaining on his contract.

More details as they come into play.
==================================

God, I don't want Jalen Rose on my team and Tim Thomas isn't even involved in this trade.

Though Shaq and Spree together should be endless entertainment.

why in God's name would Zeke want Jalen Rose ? Don't we have enough flotsam & jetsam mucking up the 2 & 3 ?

Shaq & Spree do make an interesting pair though.....

I'm presuming that Shaq can keep Spree in line for a short run, since if it doesn't pan out he can go feed his family elsewhere after this season.

But I can understand from Miami's standpoint why they're making this move. They need a better third option besides Eddie Jones, especially since Wade is getting a lot of little nagging injuries from the abuse he's been taking all year long.

This is a title run trade for the Heat and if all it costs them is Eddie Jones for a short-term position upgrade and there's no long-term commitment, they should definitely pull the trigger on it.

Meanwhile, isn't Trader Zeke just a million laughs? Their prize in this trade is the head case with the longest contract/cap commitment. Attaboy, Isiah.

Well, it was only a matter of time before Shaq got Eddie Jones traded[/wildspeculation]. Who called it over the summer, was that you Kawshen?

What? I'm beginning to think your general thoughts on trades involving the Knicks is "if we give up a player for a better player, then it's a bad trade." You wouldn't trade Penny Hardaway for Jalen Rose? They'll get rid of Tim Thomas soon enough.

My apologies for not elaborating. No, that's not the problem at all. I don't even have an issue with him being a known malcontent - after all taking on Sprewell worked out for the Knicks.

My issue is that Jalen Rose isn't someone the Knicks need financially or on the court right now.

1) You're basically trading a bad contract (Penny) for a lengthier bad contract (Rose) straight up. The Knicks will probably be over the cap by the year 3,000,000 but Zeke shouldn't be making the cap situation worse.

2) They have enough swingmen as it is with Allan Houston, Tim Thomas, Jamal Crawford and Trevor Ariza. They need a shotblocker and above ALL, they need DEFENSE. Is Rose better than Penny? Absolutely. Does he address the Knicks' weaknesses? Not at all.

The thing is - if they're trading, they need a trade that can pull them out of the neverending purgatory of "mediocre" that they're stuck in.

I don't see why the Heat would want Spreewell over Eddie Jones. Eddie Jones only averages 2 points per game less than Latrell, has a better field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three point percentage, he's a better defensive player and he's not a crybaby. The Heat are in first in the East, don't fix what ain't broke.

Sounds like a bust deal for Miami. Why ruin the chemistry of Eddie Jones, with someone like Spree. I would say keep the character guy, and fuck Spree.

Chemistry or not, Eddie Jones' best days are long behind him. Spree can sail his yacht down to Miami.

This deal, of course, screws the Raptors. Sure, they rid themselves of the useless Rose, but for friggin' Penny Hardaway? If this was 1995, I'd be impressed.

If this were 1995, I doubt even Zeke would deal Penny in his prime....

Well, unless he was getting a player like Joe Barry Carroll, of course.

I don't understand why Zeke would want to trade for Rose, anyway. Jalen and Zeke didn't get along in Indiana, and Rose basically forced the Pacers to trade him to Chicago.

and also, Jalen is AWFUL. He is the Jake Plummer of the NBA.

and also, doesn't Eddie Jones get almost traded every year? Or at least every since he's been in Miami? I'm just happy they've moved on from the usual Bulls rumor.
