| #1 Posted on 7.4.02 1935.46 Reposted on: 7.4.09 1936.54 | Hey, got this in my inbox the other day... you may want to check this out if you use Yahoo Groups for anything (or if you have a Yahoo account of any sort)
Apparently when Yahoo Groups went "down" recently, Yahoo took that
opportunity to add "Marketing Preferences" to your "Account
Information". "Account Information" contains personal information
like your address, phone number and e-mail address.
However the "Marketing Preferences" that Yahoo selected for you
indicate you want not only spam e-mail from Yahoo, but also snail mail
and even phone solicitations!
However these "Marketing Preferences" apparently won't take effect for
60 days or so. Below are the instructions on how to customize your
"Marketing Preferences", or select no marketing at all:
1. Go to any Yahoo Groups page, like http://groups.yahoo.com
2. Click " Account Info " in the upper right. You will likely have to
enter your password, and possibly your Yahoo User ID.
3. When "Review My Account Information" comes up, click on "Edit your
Marketing
Preferences".
4. Make whatever changes you wish, including perhaps change all those
"Yes's" back to "No's".
5. Click "Save Changes".
6. Reload the "Marketing Preferences" page to verify the updates were
made. | Promote this thread! | | Y2Disco

| #3 Posted on 7.4.02 2238.52 Reposted on: 7.4.09 2255.24 | Thanks for the heads-up. I run two lists on Yahoo! and noticed some subtle changes (like all my groups suddenly defaulted to "Convert to HTML" and I was getting banner ads.)
I suppose I can't blame them though. 1Bob reminds us everyday where web advertising has gone...
(LATER UPDATE: I got an e-mail from EZ Board this weekend advising of pretty much the same thing! But EZ Board gave you a one-click opt-out feature.)
