From the X-pac interview on WWF.com

It's a bunch of (B.S.), he said. "It's a bunch of guys insecure guys saying a bunch of stuff and they don't know what they're talking about. We're just doing our thing. We always do what's right for business. People can say anything they want, but the past is the past, and what's going on now is what's going on now. And we're all business. You've seen the matches; you've seen the stuff with The Rock and Hogan.

I've read where some people say I jumped over the entire talent roster into a top spot. That's a crock too. I've been in this business 15 years. I've been a main-event guy and I was kind of damaged goods for a while, but I took six months off and I'm back, and that's all there is to it. I'm putting my money where my mouth is. A lot of guys think they know what they're doing, and the fact of the matter is, they don't really. They don't know how to draw money. And until they get there, they need to shut up.

Did I miss something? When the hell was X-pac ever a main-eventer? Granted I come back to watching WWF till the fall of 99 but I dont even recall X-Pac being IC champ.
I think they should cut Edge loose on this guy again. Hanging out with main eventers doesnt make you a main eventer. Ditto for hanging out with guys that draw money doesnt mean you draw money too. Who does this guy think he is? This is the same X-pac that was booed at Invasion while the entire WWF was face. But he draws money? There are 20 guys on the roster more over than X-Pac. Does being friends with HHH really get him all these privileges?

Maybe he was talking about his old GWF glory days in Texas when he was not only the light heavyweight champ, but (along with Booker T) was the only reason to even watch the show. I could kind of understand if that's what he meant. Heck, I can't entirely hate him to this day because of the matches he put on back then.

I think getting booed during the invasion angle while the entire WWF was face, is just a testament to what a great heel X-Pac is. I don't know if I would call him a "main eventer" per say, but since his return to the WWF after Wrestlemania 14, he has been a major player in the WWF. He was around for the big turn around, he was a major part DX. You don't see half the heels in the WWF getting the kind of heat that X-Pac gets, and don't give me that crap about it being "hate" heat and not "heel" heat. Heat is heat and X-Pac gets it. The fans are supposed to hate him and they do. If X-Pac can use his friends, and politics to get himself in the main event. More power to him. Is there even anyone on the RAW roster that is more deserving of his spot than he is? At the moment, I think not.

X-Pac was for a while the kind of guy who could main event RAW or Smackdown, but would be out of his league in PPV main events or long-term feuds with main eventers. For example, in early 2000, Triple H was trying to get his title back from The Big Show, so one Smackdown I remember Triple H's buddy X-Pac faced champ Big Show and beat him with A LOT of interference.

One thing that always gets lost in his threads is that Pac is one HELL of a worker. The problem lies in the fact that he's an overexposed, obnoxious little shit who just plain pisses everyone off. For instance, he had no business beating Tajiri last year at SummerSlam-his character was stale, he was barely over and he was still hurting after his previous injuries.

I could have swore it's because he sucks, not because he's a heel

I think X-Pac has a bigger fanbase than many people think. Whether it's I like him heat, or I want to see him get his ass kicked ala Honkey Tonk Man heat, doesn't really matter. I agree with Bucs though, he might be show maineventer but not ppv maineventer.

X-Pac is a great heel or at least he gets INCREDIBLE heel heat. Either way he gets booed like nobody's business which is half the battle. He makes ANYone a face by default and rubs ANYone with heeldom. It is rather remarkable.

He works well enough when he's sober. Some of his past matches, however, called into question his supposed clean and sober act. He IS overeexposed AND I think he could benefit greatly from tweaking his in-ring arsenal. Your SS example was right-on.

Pac did sorta main-event once on a UK PPV during Rocky's heel title run, shortly after the Survivor Series tournament. It wasn't the last match on the card, but it was for the world title and, as hard as it is to believe now, X-pac was so over as a face that the fans bought into pretty much ever near fall. When everyone talks about how everyone hates X-pac and how he couldn't draw face heat to save his life, I always remember the face D-X run when he was probably number three or four face in the company, getting over on his "plucky babyface runt" routine. I'm not sure he could turn back to that now, but he certainly had that ability at some point in recent history. After Austin's (IMHO) fairly effective heel run in the latter half of last year, I don't really believe there's anybody they can't turn anymore, though...

In short, though: Waltman has a minor basis for that claim, but hardly a legitimate one. Can he main event RAW? Sure. Can he main event a PPV? Not a chance in hell.

I don't agree that X-Pac is an outstanding heel. I just think the reason he's been getting booed so much is because people really can't stand him. As Tajiri put so eloquently, “X-Pac sucks.”

Remember the Invasion angle? He was the only WWF guy who was getting booed when facing someone from WCW/ECW. I think there is a substantial difference between hate heat and heel heat. Heel heat is a positive thing. Hate heat is kind of more like “Get this son of a bitch off my television.” That's the kind of heat X-Pac gets.

Is it entirely fair? I think I've definitely gotta agree with comments made by both Edge and Chris Jericho concerning the lack of X-Pac's character development for quite some time. A little gimmick alteration might do Waltman some good, but I wouldn't try to make him face.

I hate that argument so much. When people don't like someone, they react by a)not watching/attending ot b)giving the wrestler no reaction at all. The Lance Storms, Ravens and Perry Saturns of the world WISH they had X-Pac's heat.

What exactly about the response X-Pac gets makes you think it is different from the boos any othetr over heel gets?

Indeed. I'd like to hear how people feel there's any difference in the heat that X-Pac gets and what Kurt Angle gets. I'd be willing to bet if you polled the average fan and asked them why they think both X-Pac and Angle suck, you'd wouldn't get some smart mark response about how Angle's heat is real good heel heat...you'd get responses about their characters like Angle being a huge dork who thinks he's better than everyone else, and X-Pac being a little guy who latches onto bigger guys to protect him...which, are exactly the reasons why they want you to boo them, right?

Fans hate Angle and want to see him get his ass kicked. Fans don't even want to see X-Pac at ALL even if he does get his ass kicked. The boos when he hits the stage are for "aw shit, another fucking X-Pac match". They tell him he sucks during his matches not during his music like they do with Angle. Ever been to a live event and tried to get a beer during an X-Pac match? The line is so long you have to hope you don't miss the next match.

Why have none of you have even thought about the possibility that this article was a big work to get you to hate X Pac even more? Can this man be that snotty in real life? You have to take anything on WWF.com with a grain of salt. The man has to know he's not a main event guy. I mean when has he EVER done anything in the top card except lick boots? No one is that delusional, plus imagine the animosity a statement like that would cause in the WWF locker room. This statement reeks of workitude.

You wanna know why "hate heat" is worse than "heel heat", and how the "average" fan feels about X-Pac? From a couple of years ago, the best sign I ever saw:

X-Pac = Piss Break

People chant "An-gul Sucks" during Angle's matches.

So you're saying they hate him because they don't chant in time with his music?

Sure they hate Angle but singing "you suck" during his intro is one thing.

Screaming "X-Pac sucks" cause he just did his sixth spinning heel kick is another.

Angle can silence a suck chant by performing in the ring which is something I have never seen X-Pac do.

I like to watch X-Pac in the ring.. but he does need to update the moveset some more.. He pulled out a few decent matches with Kidman when they switched titles... but, its been a while since they've done something great with him.
