16 games in the books with 12 more to play.

Do you think that Texas Tech was having Nebraska flashbacks last night as they threw all over cal at the Holiday Bowl ? The Golden Bears had a chance to make a statement about the BCS selection process but chose instead to go flat and not show up. True, it's a lot easier to get fired up for The Rose Bowl than it is the Holiday Bowl but they still should have beaten the Red Raiders.

The Blue Field of Boise State always seems to deliver a fun game and Fresno St's OT victory over Virginia kept that trend alive. I'm just sorry that work made me miss the first half of the game.

Notre Dame got blown out ? Who could have predicted that happening ?

Hats off to Navy and their first 10 win season in who knows how long.

I guess Ohio State didn't miss their starting QB afterall in their blowout of OK State.

I will gladly take the +12 and Boise State and I will take the over on the points in the Liberty Bowl today. The real question is which will be higher - the total points in this game or the # of times that ABC runs ads for Alias tomorrow during their 3 BCS games ?

Does anyone really care about the Peach Bowl ? How excited do you think the Miami and Florida players really are about playing each other yet again ?

I wasn't going to watch the Rose Bowl but the closer it gets to kickoff the better odds get that I will. It is the first meeting between these schools. And as an aside - don't forget that HGTV will be broadcasting LIVE and commercial free during tomorrow's Rose Parade. (You can always put the Outback Bowl in the corner of your picture in picture.)

Well the Hurricanes probably are not too excited seeing how they came close to winning the ACC and going to a BCS game but the Gators should be happy they are playing in the Peach Bowl. Their season was not too great and yet they still have the oppurtunity to beat both FSU and Miami for the first time since 1985. If they do that then this season wasn't a total loss.

1905 was their last 10-win season, actually.

And did anybody SEE that drive? 22-plays, 14 1/2 minutes of absolutely amazing ball-control. New Mexico should be kicking themselves because they stopped Navy three-and-out, but there was an offsides call and they got the first down. Eighteen plays later, the drive finally concluded.

Well Louisville barely beat Boise St. in an awesome shootout, my Canes crushed the softie Gators to make me very happy New Years Eve, and we've had some amazing finishes today, with Iowa and Texas winning as time runs out... so far, a great bowl season. Here's hoping the Sugar and Orange Bowls are just as fun!

*The* OSU - WHOOOOOOOOO!!!

Glad to see Auburn and Utah win. Anything to keep the pressure on for a playoff system.

Maybe I'm crazy, but if *I'm* currently in charge of the BCS, not only do I declare the BCS a success, but I might say it's the best year ever. Witness:

-a mid major school (Utah) not only got into the BCS, but dominated its opponent.

-Three of the four BCS games were competitive.

-After all the controversy over Texas being selected over Cal, Texas won and Cal lost.

-A national championship game featuring two storied schools, and starring FOUR Heisman finalists, including the past two winners. Perhaps the best championship game ever.

I'm not saying I agree with all of that, but if I'm the guy in charge (who IS it these days? It's not Roy Kramer anymore, right?), then I'm declaring this years BCS a BIG success.

You think that Pittsburgh getting into the BCS helps make it the best year ever?

I'd say that this year was probably the best case against the BCS systems.

1. Utah beating Pittsburg, no big deal Pitt didn't belong there glad it happened. Yet, they are going to be one of three teams with an undefeated record and after beating Pitt have a very good case for a piece of the national championship picture

2. Most college Bowl games are competetive, but most are blows out or close till the last 8 minutes of play. The BCS has really nothing to do with that, it goes back to the players and coaching staffs

3.Texas winning and Cal losing was a happy concidence for the BCS. I really never saw the problem with that expect that it should have been Cal/Texas instead of Texas/Michigan. But its both teams' fault for not beating the number 1 and 2 seeds anyway.

4. It is neat to have four of the five Heisman contenders this year, plus this year and last year's winner in it. It still doesn't make-up for the fact that after this National Championship Game is played, two other teams will claim a piece of the title as well.

The entire point of the BCS system was to have a clear winner. You can point to nice things it has done, but at the end of the day, its primary job has failed two years in a row. Playoffs are what is needed, my boys at Notre Dame just have to suck it up and join the Big Ten and be done with it.

Well, if you're going to put me on the stand and swear under oath, then no.

BUT, given the hand that was dealt-and the rules that are in place-it didn't turn out too bad. Besides, who else from the Big East would you put in there?

The BCS's primary goal, if I understand it correctly, is to match the #1 and #2 teams together for the National Championship. Now THAT certainly hasn't happened in the past, but USC and Oklahoma were ranked first and second all year. Auburn made a valiant charge, yes, but as a voter, I'd be hard pressed to jump them over either one of those two.

And Notre Dame will NEVER join the Big Ten. And as a Big Ten fan, I can't say that I want them and their holier-than-thau attitude in there. Although the money from that NBC contract would be nice.

Not much of game last night down in Miami. The Sooners early collapse combined with USC converting those turnovers into points made it easy to flip over to The Amazing Race and to be in bed by halftime. Oklahoma should probably get a 5 year ban from the BCS championship game for their performances over the last two years.

As for a BCS Playoff, College Football needs it and the fans want it. The $$$ behind it would be huge and Network executives would be salivating at the potential ratings.

So where would we go from here this year ? Why not take the Top 8 ranked Bowl winners and match them up by their AP rankings and get to it. You would have the following first round matchups -

USC (#1) vs Miami (#10)
Auburn (#2) vs Iowa (#8)
Utah (#4) vs Georgia (#7)
Texas (#5) vs Louisville (#6)

who wouldn't want to see a Texas/Louisville shootout or even USC beating down Miami. A potential 2nd round matchup of Auburn vs Utah is the Sugar Bowl game that we should have seen. I guess we can only dream....

And does anyone know if Alias is on tonight ?

Oh man, those sound like some sweet potential games. Anyone putting a thrashing to Miami is good in my book, and anyone versus Utah or Louisville would be a must-see. However, Iowa looks a little out of place amongst that grouping.

Battlezone - any other teams you could see for rounding out the ol' Big 11? Notre Dame just seems to be the ideal fit as far as prestige, enrollment, history, yadda, yadda, yadda. Of course, Penn State seemed that way too.
I remember Pitt being mentioned once as a good potential addition, but I would think that would also leave West Virginia as a good potential pickup.

Yeah, I don't know if you want Notre Dame in the Big Ten, they seem to beat Michigan every year and those Michigan fans probably wouldn't have won Big Ten Title with that loss this year or previous years. I do think the easiest way to do a playoff is take the confrence champions pit them against each other and have it till Jan 2, if they get one out of confrence cupcake game to make room, so be it.

I stopped watching when the Sooners decided to go for the field goal when they were down 28-7, I played LOTR: Third Age till I passed out. Sooners just didn't look like they didn't know where they were at. It was probably the worst 1 vs 2 match up I have ever seen. The main problem is that Auburn will now claim they could have beat USC, I doubt it, but they and Utah have a nice gripe for the title, now. I do believe USC is the best team in the country, which is really really tough for a Notre Dame fan to say, but the fact they decimated the Sooners is proof enough to me they could rip Auburn and Utah a new one.
