Oh man, what a great RAW. Where to begin...

Christy looked HOT in that purple outfit at the beginning of the show! Too bad she kept changing outfits between matches and I wouldn't see her in it again until Batista's match.

To me, Benoit vs. Viscera is a DREAM MATCH! Vis even broke out the SPINNING WHALE KICK! And Benoit hit the GERMAN SUPLEX on a 485 pound man. FIVE-STAR MATCH!

Mohammed Hassan immediately became one of my Top 10 Superstars just by wearing a headress. Thumbs up to you, my man. As for the debate next week: Steiner vs. Nowinski Part II.

Also, we all knew Shawn Michaels was the Guest Referee from the start.

8 matches has got to be the most they've done in a long, long time... they didn't really go with the one or two extended 15-20ish match formula for this show, instead pretty much every match was competitive aside from the Dave squash of Rhyno. Tomko just looked... odd this week, with the CC shirt on and his beard looked odd. The "beat the clock" stip really added some good psychology and desperation to the matches... I was surprised with how good Vis performed in his match with Benoit, granted it was Benoit in the ring but the little stuff that the big man did (especially the leg lift to counter the chop block) made it a pretty good little vs. big match. The Hassan promo was pretty good, although I was enjoying the time we were enjoying without the announcers being in a feud (I don't think they've been in one since finishing up the Coach/Snow angle back in fall 03). The main event was as well booked as it could have been, if HHH was going to get his pinfall back over Shelton it might as well be a match like this, where Benjamin gets in plenty of offense and has HHH beat with the T-bone. He got a pretty good reaction too, so the crowd is still gonna buy him as a legit ME threat.

Overall, a solid RAW, focusing on in-ring action, a quality promo by a rising heel, and some nice cleavage shots (Christy, Lita, Candace, Maria).

I not only managed to guess the ref, but the opponents in four out of six matches. Which clearly means the show was far too predictable, but it sure was fun.

Great job hyping up the PPV with the six matches. The time limit deal and the "win or lose your place" stipulation made the matches significant.

The leadup to the second commercial break sure seemed like a series of miscues. Orton's music starts while he's still got some interview left, we go out to the arena and here comes Christy running in the dark, then FINALLY Orton...

Isn't Christian's "THAT'S HOW I ROLL CHRISTIAN" shirt a great example of a message coming out wrong...especially worn on the back of Tomko?

For the love of Iron Mike Sharpe, give Simon Dean a damn finisher already. He's not a nice guy, and he doesn't fight fair. We GET it. Two roll-up victories on RAW is enough.

Christian's hoodie and music are stylin'.

Shelton, despite not having a PPV match, is being used very well. A good loss for him and another great showing against Triple H.

Speaking of H, he's playing the weasel heel beside superbad Batista, who officially became The Man when he pantomimed a wristwatch, said there's plenty of time, and buried Rhyno dead.

I enjoyed this show.

I was down with RAW this week. Big Dave has now completely won me over with "I've got plenty of time. Give him another!" Lots of good matches with good psychology. I must be slipping though, because for the life of me I couldn't figure out the secret ref.

Enjoyable Raw...getting very intrigued by the way they're bringing along the Mohammed Hassan character, and hope he's in action when they come to Abilene next month.

I love the way they keep teasing us with Batista, and him and HHH's bickering is great.

Now to the who else gives a shit department, but I had a thought. Why not use the Simon Dean thing, to give Rosey a fresh start, maybe as Dean's own personal testimonial guy, who swears by the Simon System.

They have to do something with Maria....she is terrible.

You know who else is terrible? That new DIVA that was talking to Eric Bischoff about her Christmas in LA. I forget her name, but her voice and acting ability was like poison to the ears.

Decent show tonight, some good matches, and an interesting gimmick. The thing is, you knew none of the EC participants were going to lose their bouts so that took away from the suspense. WCW did something similar once in their dying days for a War Games match featuring the triple cell thing. The wrestlers had to compete in qualifying matches the same night to keep their spot in the main event. If the opponents won they would be put in. Well Ernest Miller (WCW "commish" at the time) had to face both members of Kronik, and he lost. So Kronik took his scheduled spot for the main event. Just saying, it was suprising and unexpected.

Once again, less than 2 weeks until the PPV, and only 3 confirmed matches. That's pretty sad. I know the main appeal to watch it is the main event, but its still going to take a lot more for me to plunk down 35 dollars for what will sure to be a gimmicky, screwy main event. The other 2 matches that were announced aren't exactly much to get excited about either.

One of the best Raw's I've seen it ages. It had focus, lots of drama and a couple of decent matches. Still, I agree that HBK being the guest ref was kind of a given. They weren't going to bring back a big name not under contract for a PPV this minor.

I actually guessed Ricky Steamboat as guest ref.

They signed him, remember?

When Bischoff said that nobody in the EC match would be happy with the guest referee, I wouldn't have guessed HBK. Orton and Jericho had feuds with him before, but they're faces now. I can't even remember Benoit or Batista having any historyy with him. I was expecting Austin, Lesnar, or even Goldberg. Somebody that might have heat with the wrestlers or the fans.

Has Mohammad Hassan had a televised match yet? Or even a confrontation with an active wrestler? It seems like the only plan for him now is to go out, rant, and get booed.

Yeah I guessed 4 of the wrestlers right and HBK could not have been any more obvious.
But a good Raw. 8 matches is a lot for Raw and only one actually sucked. Plus they actually moved all the plotlines forward. Keep up writing for a 3 weeks at a time and maybe they will regain some fans.

Batista has history with HBK due to his association with Evolution, and he also lost to Michaels at Armageddon 03. Even though Benoit was (somewhat) allied with him for a good chunk of 2004, I'm guessing that they're going on his matches against him, and maybe even Michaels beating out Benoit in the Taboo Tuesday voting if you wanna go unnecessarily too deep into it like I am.

Well, even though Michaels and Benoit were somewhat chummy here towards the end of the year, there is still that whole "superkicking him and signing over his name on the contract" hump to be gotten over. Since they portray Benoit as a guy who's no nonsense in the ring, and who doesn't much care for outside shenanigans, that's probably not going to sit well with him.

What's the point of putting HBK in the match as the ref? The match already has most of the top names of the show, plus it's the Elim. Chamber, so why the need to stick HBK in there too? Seems like overkill. Especially since HBK will likely take the focus off guys involved in the match. It's almost a given HBK will end up bleeding, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him superkick at least 2 participants in the match.

If they don't want to use him to fill out the rest of the card (which looks pretty bad), why not hold off his return until the next PPV (or Raw)?

Other than that, Raw was pretty enjoyable. Rosey/Simon and Molly/Lita were both pretty forgettable, but the other 6 matches were decent-or-better (wasn't feeling Maven/Orton, though).

The crowd's been eating up the Batista slow-burn face turn. The crowd's going to go nuts when Dave finally turns on HHH. At this point, they'd probably be better off doing HHH/Batista than HHH/Orton. At least that's what I'd be interesting in seeing go down.

Pretty damn entertaining show from my point of view. I thought it was a great build to the Chamber match.

However, there is something that I don't understand. Why is Viscera around? Granted, he doesn't suck that bad and can work a decent match (of course, he was in there with Benoit), but why was he brought back and all those others were released. Is he now the "big-man jobber"?

And even though he lost, Christian is still the f'n man in my book ... *heads to WWE Shopzone to search for "Captain Charisma" T-shirt*

Dude, what? New Year's Revolution is a one-match show, that's all but guaranteed by the nature of the EC stips (cramming six main eventers into one match tends to put a drain on the reat of the card's drawing power). So why not load that one bout up as much as possible? I think HBK's involvement adds a level of intrigue to the proceedings, as there's at least three people he has strong issues with (Edge, Jericho, HHH). And why in Hell is it "a given" that he'll start bleeding, just because he's taking part in some capacity? He's a referee, fer cryin' out loud.

Just a fantastic RAW last night. The stipulations to tie the whole show together did a good job of making even filler matches seem more important. Well, maybe not Lita/Molly, but that's because they treat Molly like a jobber these days.

I'm officially on the Batista bandwagon now. I found myself yelling, "Kill 'im, Dave" during his match with Rhyno and loved his little interactions with HHH. HHH is going in an interesting direction as well, becoming the paranoid, whiny heel who may be losing confidence in himself. Definitely a counterpoint to the cocky, arrogant SOB he's been and it might be just the refreshment his character needs.

Best match of the show was obviously Christian/Jericho. Nice, sick bump from Christian, too. The psychology of the main event was very nice, with HHH facing somebody who was a definite threat and then almost losing the same way he lost to him the first time (distraction, splash into the turnbuckle from behind, roll-up). Very nice little callback.

Viscera needed to tap out to that crossface a lot faster. Fat bastard.

HBk as the ref is a good choice. He's literally feuded with pretty much everyone in the match in the last few years, outside of Edge. But Edge has been bitching about Shawn since Taboo Tuesday and, honestly, I think he's being brought in specifically to spark up a feud between the two for Wrestlemania. Personally, I wouldn't mind it being for the title, with Edge winning the Chamber, but that's probably not going to happen, sadly.

I just think there's enough going on between all the participants already, that adding HBK to the mix won't make it appreciably better. Why not save his "big return" so that it will make an impact (assuming he doesn't turn heel in this match or intentionally cause someone to lose)? And, from another standpoint, does adding HBK goinbg to get any more people to buy the PPV?

And from a kayfabe standpoint, why stick a guy who has issues w/ pretty much everyone in the match in there as a ref? Why not go w/ an impartial ref? Bischoff seems to be going the Teddy Long "calling it legit as the GM" route, so why put a guy in there who may be apt to screw over 1 (or more) of the participants? That doesn't seem fair.

I dunno, it just seems like they're shoehorning him in there just for the hell of it.

And why in Hell is it "a given" that he'll start bleeding, just because he's taking part in some capacity? He's a referee, fer cryin' out loud

Because he's HBK, and since he's come back, he feels the need to bleed in big matches in order to add "drama". Just because he's a ref doesn't change things. I expect some situation to arise that will lead him to blade. I'd frankly be shocked if he didn't.
