Daunte Culpepper and that offense really deserve better than the crap the 11 people on the other side of the ball has been giving them. When a QB has 12 TDs and no turnovers in four games against a team, what are the odds that team goes 1-3 against the other? It's insane. I kept wanting to punch the screen every time the annoucers kept talking about Culpepper's ability to win the big game. Hello? It's not like he's out there tackling people.
Speaking of Fox, I wonder if their knees get sore from all the verbal fellating they continuously give Bret Farve. Yes, he's a great quarterback. WE GET IT.
I tried to work up some venom over the call at the end of the first half that allowed the Pack (with no timeouts) to ask for a measurement to set up to kick the field goal, but I just couldn't. I mean, from my admittedly biased eyes, that receiver wasn't even close to getting the first down, but I would have thought with all the obscure rules the NFL has, you'd THINK there'd be a rule about a team with no timeouts not being allowed to make subsitutions like that during the measurement. I mean, that's just ridiculous.
I'm torn on Mike Tice. In all likelyhood, the Vikings are going to back into the playoffs, but they're not going any going anywhere with that D. But the offense is as strong as ever. Is it time for them to cut their losses with the guy, or do you just can the defensive coordinator and try and rebuild that defense?
Bah.

Maybe it is because I have become immune through the years to the Favre love from FOX and the other networks, but I thought Aikman was going to need knee replacement surgery after his talking of Culpepper. After obliterating the Packers defense in the 2nd quarter, the mighty Vikings offense on the turf scored 3 points in the second half. Hell, the inept defense actually outscored the offense in the last 30 minutes. As for Tice: 4th and 6 last 2 minutes around the 45, Wiggins just made an incredible play to get extra yards and getting out of bounds, division title on the line: Go For It. The Packers defense is atrocious and the Vikings supposedly have a great offense, so get the damn 6 yards. Once you punt the ball, you have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen. All of that talent, and if not for the utter craphole that is the National Football Conference, the Vikings would find a way not to make the playoffs yet again.

(1) - If you know he's so great, could you spell his name correctly? Two t's.
(2) - Anyone can ask for a measurement. If the measurement result is as close as it was (less than a foot, if I recall), it's worth asking for it.
(3) - Yes, the Vikes should have gone for it.
(4) - McCombs is trying to sell the team. Tice is signed to a cheap contract, which would have to be terminated by 1/1 from what I've read, or it is renewed for next year. Given those things, and considering the Vikings will be playing for the playoffs on 1/2, Tice will be back. | Battlezone

1. Oops. Sorry about that. That didn't look right to me at the time, and I didn't bother to check it. I was too busy throwing furniture around my apartment and cursing Mike Tice.
2. I didn't have a problem with the measurement, just the fact that it, in effect, gave the Brett Farve and the Packers a timeout they didn't have. I understand that was probably a very rare instance where something like that happens, I was just surprised the NFL didn't have some kind of obscure rule about it.
Agreed on point number three, but 4: I don't care WHEN his contract is renewed, he probably should be gone, playoffs or no. This is a guy, after all, that was all but openly stumping for the Washington Huskies before they hired Willingham, so I'm sure he's expecting it anyway.
After all that, if the Rams lose on Monday, the Vikes are in? Egads. Assuming they come in as the sixth seed, wouldn't that put them in Green Bay for the Wild Card game? Whoopee. One and Done again. | JimBob Skeeter

| #5 Posted on 28.12.04 0822.25 Reposted on: 28.12.11 0826.06 | (4) Well it's official: Tice is back for another year. McCombs made the call yesterday afternoon. I am torn on big Mike. I like the guy. I think he's a decent coach. The team respects the hell out of him. I don't know if the crappy defense is because of him or his coordinator. Also, this year, Tice has made some very bad calls/time clock management/bad challenges that just SCREAMED he was getting wrong info. I really don't know what to say other than I will back Tice for another year, but if he can't change shit next year, see ya. (2) As for that measurement call before the half, it looked to me like the ball was at LEAST 1-1/2 to 2 feet behind the line. Hell, when they placed the ball there was plenty of room between the tip of the ball and the yellow line, and yes, I know that the yellow line is only a reference point, not the legal line, but either way, he wasn't there. (3) Hell YES they should have gone for it, as we all knew what would more than likely happen once they punted (which it did). (1) Favre is one hell of a QB, but he has lost some of his lustre this year. I DO feel sorry for the guy, but jeez, enough is enough already. | pieman

Well, you two have the two Ts correct now, but it's Favre, not Farve. | The Thrill

1.) I'm used to seeing the Packer secondary out of position to make plays. Xmas Eve, they seemed like they were in position...but forgot how to tackle anybody. (Aaaannnnndd...cue the Lombardi "WHAT THE HELL'S GOIN' ON OUT HERE!?" soundbite.)
2.) Javon Walker is f'n MONEY. Clutch, baby.
3.) All those low TD's Brett was throwing reminded me of that stupid snap the Lions' center made on the botched XP attempt last week that let the Viqueens sneak out of Ford Field w/ a win.
4.) Division champs agayne...and my man William Henderson is AT LAST Pro Bowl-bound. FINALLY.
5.) Here's hoping for some secondary tackling improvement. More Cover 2, please... | ScreamingHeadGuy
