Did anyone else have that sick feeling like I did all through Smackdown? I mean, when Scott Keith talked about Hogan pulling the greatest political end-round in history, I scoffed. I mean, Hogan had no pro-active part in the reactions he got in that Canadian stretch. But after watching that 2 hour ego-boosting circle jerk of a show, there's just no denying it. Hogan is an amazing political master.

Personally, I'm completely over my Hogan nostalgia--watching him prance around in the red and yellow and feather boas...I just felt sorry for the guy.

Other Smackdown thoughts:

--Michael Cole has to go.
--Nice to see Kidman and Tajiri ooh and ahh the crowd for a few minutes...hopefully it whet fans' appetites for full blown cruiserweight action.
--Anyone else finding the Undisputed Champion show-floating idea stupid already? Is Triple H going to go to Raw now and have to explain to Taker what's going on, then go to Smackdown and update Hogan, then go back to Raw, and so on and so forth? They really just need to split the shows completely...two sets of champs, everything...until they build things up to where they can afford to promote separate PPVs, just make PPVs "supercards" where both companies are in the building and the best of the best from each defend their titles and such. Otherwise, unless they are going to promote Triple Threat title matches every PPV, the show that doesn't have the #1 contender on its roster to me feels like its the inferior show.

Hogan got just as big a reaction tonight as he did anywhere in Canada. The man is mega over and the WWF is running with it. There is nothing political going on.

I am just floored with the reaction Hogan is getting. When he did his "whatcha gonna do" line and ripped off his shirt, what the hell was that look in his eyes? He looked like a kitten!

Triple H appeared to be doing every sneer in the book just to keep from busting out laughing.

Edge and Angle's backstage stuff was gold. Got a serious kick out of that. More mike time for Edge = ratings. I might make that a sign for Backlash.

Anytime Billy Kidman gets TV time, it's a good thing. And what the hell did Tajiri say to Torri at the end that desevered being bleeped? He wasn't even speaking English!

RVD's 7-Eleven commercial was excellent. They aired a second variation during "Tough Enough" (but the first one is better).

What exactly was the point in recapping the entire DDP/Christian feud?

I basically liked the show overall. I liked RAW better. But if RAW can form itself into the show it looked like it's trying to Monday, and Smackdown can keep the average fans happy with the big names and Vince-style camp, maybe the split will be better for everytbody than I think it will.

I liked Smackdown better, the Kidman-Tajiri match was the difference maker. I would assume the bleep during Tajiri's rant was a rib. I busted out laughing after the beep. I guess Kidman gets his woman back. Rey coming in soon is going to be awesome. Hell, go sign Juvi too! Then La Parka! Put Chavo on TV! We can have WCW all over again! Well, the good parts of WCW anyway.

I totally agree the champ going from show to show sucks ass. I don't even know how they are going to do the PPV. Are PPVs where the shows can mix or what? I would assume there will only be RAW vs RAW matches and Smackdown vs Smackdown matches. I don't know. I like the split, but there are alot of questions to be answered.

Has bean? What is that all aboot, eh?

Finally! Heel Tajiri rocks.

What exactly was the point of the whole HHH-Undertaker deal then?

Anyway, I think Raw wins hands down but it's not like it is an actual competition.

HHH-Taker is not the feud. HHH-Hogan is not the feud. The feud is Flair-Vince. HHH, Hogan, and Taker are their pawns. The point is Flair will be pushing Taker as the #1 contender and Vince will be countering with Hogan. Seeing as we know Hogan gets it, Vince will win this round.

At the beginning, Vince said the board of directors said that whoever won the coin toss for the first draft pick also got to name the Backlash #1 contender. I don't remember this, was it ever really said?

Also, Flair didn't "name" the challenger, Triple H layed down a challenge and Undertaker accepted. Also, I thought Undertaker was Vince's boy?

UT is Vince's "boy," and let's remember that VKM is highly upset with Hogan. I see Vince perhaps trying to tick of Taker by giving his shot to Hogan, and Taker thus looking to take Hogan out. I don't know who else HHH would defend against at the PPV, but I kind of smell a Hogan/Taker match. If they stick with the no interpromotional match thing, then look for Undertaker to iterfere in the match between HHH and Hogan, setting up something else down the line.

Who knows. It's the WWF.

1. I personally don't think Hogan deserves a title shot either.
2. Get rid of Cole -- I'd love to see Styles do his job. (won't happen)
3. The split would have been a lot better if it was WCW and WWF...they messed up this oppurtunity by having all of the WCW stars job constantly to the WWF boys.
4. Crusierweights on the shows make better TV.

What everybody is also forgetting is that Flair has not responded to Vince's actions of Smackdown. This will (a) get people to watch Raw and (b) his response will cause people to want to see what Vince will do on Smackdown. It's something used by most soap operas to make the viewer tune in the next day. If the WWF is going to really try and be like a soap opera, at least they are starting to use the right aspects of it.

Because the two shows (hopefully) will not interact, unless at PPVs for the time being, this is going to set up something where it's either a three-way match or one of the "contenders" gets screwed out of a Title shot. Also, did Flair even agree to making a HHH/Taker match? I cannot remember, but I don't remember him ever "sanctioning" the match.

And I fully agree about getting rid of Cole, the only piece of Smackdown I saw had Cole saying that Hogan deserved the Title shot. Honestly, I don't care who wrestlers HHH (Hogan or Taker) because either way the match is going to suck ass. But to try and say to the viewing audience that Hogan "deserved" a Title shot is an idiotic statement. Hogan has done nothing to "earn" the shot at the belt, and it only is a Title shot based on popularity. It would be like putting an old Baseball player on the All-Star team even though he was hurt most of the year, and probably wouldn't even play. Would they do that to Tony Gwynn... uh... Nevermind :)

Maybe the recappers should start timing the speech-making segments instead of the matches. ENOUGH TALKING ALREADY! Note to HHH and everybody else: You're not actors. Say what you have to say and get on with it. God, these guys take forever to get a damn sentence out.

Hogan looked ridiculous in those tie-dye tights with the weight belt up around his CHEST, for chrissakes.

And trying to mirror the famous staredown he had with Rock was a JOKE -- Hogan and HHH nose-to-nose, then turning their heads to listen to the crowd reaction that was so WEAK they had to wait and wait and wait some more before any chanting started.

This show sucked -- AGAIN.

I'm not doubting the popularity. What I can't stand is for The Rock to cut an entire promo about Hulk Hogan. For Triple H to talk about how much he idolized Hulk Hogan. For Michael Cole to go on and on about Hulk Hogan. I find it disturbing. He's no longer just one spoke on the wheel, or just merely a big spoke. He's latched himself along with Vince to be the hub that the whole world revolves around.

True, we should wait until Monday to see what happens next, I'm not talking about the storyline per se...there are ways to have this exact same storyline without Rock emasculating himself and without the rest of the WWF roster fawning all over the guy.

Re SmackDown...

First, I'd like to apologize for inadvertently spoiling a little bit of SmackDown the other day. I rarely get to watch it as it is, so the thought of spoiling anything rarely occurs to me.

OK, let's talk about SmackDown. Great to see Billy Kidman back on television. And they did the right thing with him-- immediately booking a Cruiserweight Title victory over Tajiri. Hopefully this'll lead to an entertaining feud between the two (apparently over Torrie Wilson-- great that they're talking about old stuff from WCW!) and some great matches. These two guys can revitalize casual fans' interest in the Cruiserweight Division very, very quickly.

Hogan back in the yellow and red? Eh... I'm still not sure how I feel about that. The nostalgia trip is interesting, but how long will it last before everyone gets totally bored with it? Only time will tell... but I'm concerned, because I remember how quickly interest in the yellow-and-red Hogan dwindled in WCW when he brought back the colors in 1999.

Another thought about the Triple H-Hogan match at Backlash (if, indeed, that turns out to be the final main event)-- just who is the heel in this matchup? I'm not saying that face vs. face title matches can't be successful. I'm just curious as to who most fans are going to boo. My guess would be Triple H, and if so, so much for the face run by The Game, huh?

A completely unrelated comment. I'm visiting my grandfather's house this week, and I hate that he seems to think that C-SPAN is the only good channel in the entire world. He just changed the channel from The Daily Show, for godsakes! If it's not C-SPAN, it's pre-recorded parades. JOY!

...OK, tangent over. So, Albert and Scotty broke up! YAY!

OK, gotta go. He wants his telephone; he wants his C-SPAN.

Evidence that the H isn't legitimately over. Gotta love it.

Also, did anyone catch the Great Hogan IMMEDIATELY start burying the H last night (CZim missed it). First words out of his mouth "Well, Hunter..."
The man is truly a god.
There's also the issue of the Undertaker...which I believe our Lord and Wrestling Savior might parlay into finally getting a job back.
"Bow down" the man sez. I can't argue.

Not so sure but what there wasn't a glaring error (what? only ONE?) get out on the airwaves of last night's show. Somebody help me out here.....during the backstage vignette between Jericho and Rock, Jericho said "I beat you at No Mercy, I beat you at Judgement Day..."

Maybe my memory's screwed up, but shouldn't that last part have been 'I beat you at Vengeance' instead? Could be wrong, but since last year's Judgement Day took place the day before he and Benoit beat the two-man power trip for the tag belts, I honestly don't think he went up against Rock.

But what the hell...I could be wrong.

And just so I can get it off my chest, why ISN'T he getting a Steph-free rematch against HHH at Backlash? Have we not beat all the stupid out of the writers & bookers yet?

I'm hoping that Vince & Co. have a better idea of what to do with a Red & Yellow(tm) Hogan than WCW did. As I recall Kevin Sullivan was the one who brought RYH out of cryogenic storage the first time, and nobody ever accused him of competent booking. Further, at the time, WCW was on its last legs.

And I think the Rock is playing this well. He's going to let Hogan succeed or fail on his own `merits'. If he keeps this up, nobody will be able to accuse Rock of grandstanding or playing politics: he gets sent out to put Hogan over and he does. Austin's sitting out proves he's not immune, and HHH has both the Kliq stigma and the ``I'm sleeping with the boss' daughter/head writer'' stigma. And we all ``know'' about the Undertaker's penchant for politics
Maybe the Rock is just more comfortable, what with his career `outside' of wrestling. Or maybe he's learning at the feet of the master (Hogan could teach the Rock a few tricks, methinks). But the Rock & Hogan show seems to be over with the fans, much like the Rock & Foley show was (which was also against logic, by my account). So while it may not be my cup of tea, I'm willing to give it at least a couple of weeks to see where it goes.

Getting assaulted with yet another episode of Vince the Letch (co-starring Stacy as the Tart du Jour) was enough to make me surf over to "Survivor". Now THAT'S bad.

Smackdown was awful, and it's gonna get a whole lot worse before it ever, and I mean EEEEEver, gets better.

SmackDown! wasn't THAT bad. At least, I don't think so. Things I'll grant you:

Hogan - HHH was weird.
Vince the Letch is just disturbing.
Rock as Hogan's bitch is out of character (moreso than Rock/Foley, since Rock was at least rude to Foley).

But anyway, I thought the Edge/Angle development was nice, even if there wasn't a lot of wrestling. There was a Cruiserweight match, that, while too short for some, is a one thousand percent improvement over past WWF Cruiserweight matches, which didn't exist. My point being that they've at least laid a little groundwork for improvement, and things might just pick up from here.

Oh, and Cole's Miami Vice ensemble was ridiculous.
