Anyway, Janis Joplin was a wild and crazy type of girl. She hung around child star( she was seventeen when she began to hang out with her) Mary Badham. Mary Badham was the little girl who played Scout on 'To Kill a Mockingbird and also millions of other lesser known stars at that time such as Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison and others. I never really got that much into her, but my father really loved her. He only occasionally listens to her now. Much like his Elvis collection, his Janis collection got put into storage after she died. As he told me once, both Elvis and Janis broke his heart by dying way too soon for very stupid reasons (drugs) so he doesn't listen to them anymore. In fact, he occasionally flips Elvis the bird if he sees him on TV (he holds a grudge well). | Jade_678

'Mama' Cass Elliot died of a heart attack. However, a partially eaten ham sandwich was found by her bed. When police were asked the cause of death prior to an autopsy, they speculated that she either died of a heart attack or choked to death on a ham sandwich, thus the UNTRUE story that she died by choking on a ham sandwich.

No, I'm not referring to "The Rose", that starred Bette Midler years ago and is losely based on Joplin's life. I'm talking about the film that was to have starred Renee Zellweger or Courtney Love or Avril Lavigne at one point...

There were actually two competing projects -- the one starring Pink fell through, but the one with Renee is still on...for now.

I think Janis came back from the grave and kicked some mofos' asses for even hinting that any of those actresses (or Avril...AVRIL?!) would be good to play her, and the Jimi Hendrix lent a hand-from-the-grave because he knew then next words out of their mouths were going to be "you know who would make a FANTASTIC Jimi? Isn't Pink supposed to play Janis in some film as well? And Andre 3000 is supposed to play Jimi in a biopic.

Didn't mean that at the time there weren't people who didn't go "HIM?!" "FUCKING *ICEMAN*"?! when they announced the casting of Jim Morrison, which got even worse when it leaked that he was going to be doing a fair bit of the vocals himself. It probably helped that he exceeded a lowered bar of expectations thanks to the first-wave backlash, but he still did a great job of it regardless.
Of course, those of us who had already seen him in "Top Secret!" had no doubts whatsoever about his vocal skillz. :)
