Here's a quick review I wrote yesterday of the new XM MyFi portable radio...
Quick Hits on XM My Fi
*Recordability -- Plus -- I will no longer be forced to miss the 3rd hour of Dan Patrick's show for the local yokels. And you have five hours worth of programming to record. Minus -- You can't record one channel while listening to another. In fact, the unit has to be OFF and in its home cradle to record. * Commercial Skip -- You can immediately FF through commercials on recorded programming.0 * Portable Antenna -- Minus -- It doesn't work in my office building, which I expected. Minus -- it looks dorky, especially if you clip it to your lapel "as recommended" * Regular Antennas -- Plus -- much smaller than old version. * Car Unit -- Plus -- Actually comes with clip to attatch to car vents, so you don't have to stick the cradle to your dashboard * Buttons -- Minus -- A little small, especially for those of us with big, fat fingers * Stock Scroll -- Glad you can turn it off. * SPorts Ticker -- Plus -- customizable -- You can pick what teams/sports you want to be on the scroll * Channel Add/Subtract -- Big Plus -- You can deselect channels you don't want to hear. No more traffic channels or rap to slow me down while scrolling around the channels. * One Button Record -- Push - Not used yet * Display screen - Plus -- 6 lines and ability to do black/white or white/black * FM Projecting -- Plus -- cool idea, not actually tried yet

I had a chance to get a MyFi for FREE through employee accomodation, granted that I prepay for three months subscription and then keep it three more months after that. Unfortunately, three days prior to this announcement I ordered the SkyFi2 w/car kit for $49 (regularly $169; same restrictions applied as with the MyFi.)
I'm not unhappy. I don't really need portability, and I don't miss the DVR (shh...don't call it "TiVo" or TiVo will SUE!) function too much, even I'm robbed of the 5 pm cdt encores of This American Life each day. The SkyFi2 at least has the 30 minute memory recall, so if I catch an awesome song I can listen to it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. The FM transmitter is quite powerful, too.
With 80s on 8, CINEMAGIC~! and MLB this spring, XM truly is my new god. Time to update the sig, I guess.

When talking to friends yesterday, I realized that, come baseball season, I can record a West Coast game when I'm asleep and then listen to it the next day at work. That's very cool.
Also, the tune select feaure is pretty neat. You program in an artist or song (up to 20) and when it/they pop up, it'll give you a message saying that song is playing and od you want to jump to that channel.
