Surely I didn't run them all off.

Anyone have any ideas where they all went to?

I think it has a lot to do with abject stupidity and excessive posting not being tolerated. That's a standard you have to see in action before you understand and I doubt many people extensively read board archives before they jump in.

I should have been more specific.

Anyone here know any of the missing users, and have any idea why they left?

I'm probably not going to change anything, I'm just curious. I'd probably rather have most of the people who are no longer here than a random flame fest from Fark... which is probably what we will get if I advertise there.

One big thing, in my opinion, that drove a lot of people off is that, when most of us came here, this was a wrestling board. When wrestling hit the skids and CRZ quit recapping, I imagine most of them just stopped visiting boards like this, and missed the change to less-wrestling specific content as a result.

If that's not the case, then it likely has something to do with many internet poster's hatred of stricter mod teams. They see how tightly some things are monitored here, and bail out when they don't get the freedom they want.

Exactly why I disappeared for a year and a half. CRZ stopped recapping, and then later my interest in wrestling greatly reduced. I am sure I am not the only one that went down that path. I only came back when I stopped by to find what happened at an old show, and just popped in here on a lark.

If you surf around the net looking for stupid wrestling message boards (like I've done from time to time) you'll see that there's a lot of "I got run off by CRZ" threads or comments in quite a few of them. Of course, those people then post news "credited to: wrestlinghotnewssheet.com" or make a "Top 1000 wrestlers named Jim" thread, so it's not a huge loss. The rules here are easy to follow.

A good friend of mine was a longtime lurker here, but he never registered. This was before registered users could only see the good stuff. Now he's barely on the web, due to the fact that he's got a life that keeps him away from computers and close to his wife, kid, and work. I think that happens, especially to the younger people who surf here from school or work (I used to read CRZ's recaps in my Desktop Publishing class).

Death, famine, war, time (aka other priorities)

Couple of things I can think of that may have happened that you may be able to react to (or improve)

1) If I get a new browser, new computer, whatever and I come back here and click on login and I don't know my password, there isn't something obvious to tell me what to do to get my user info so it may just be easier to create a new login.
2) If people took a breather from coming here (again because of priorities), it's not exactly the easiest place to find. I can find it off of slashwrestling.com (as "the message board") and CRZ.net (the-w), but not if I'm only looking for something familiar (even if I can't recall that it's wienerville). Or if I was a bad speller and googled for weinerville I'd have nary a chance.
3) If I'm not planning on posting, and just want to find a random item on here, ads or no ads, images, or no images, there really isn't a compelling reason to login.
4) If it's a conscious decision and you really want to know, maybe you should ask. Have a "Here's why I'm thinking of leaving" thingy. Thing is that seems to fly in the face of what's been done in the past where people have just been told to leave and stop wasting the space saying they're leaving.
5) Ratings. If you want a board where everyone agrees keep them. Otherwise unless you agree with the majority, there are those that are going to give you low enough numbers, that you may wonder why you even bother, because who is going to read a 0.5 anyways?

BTW of those 75% how many had less than 5 posts (and does this count people who are banned? Or may have been banned and aren't so any longer but may not know it?)

Last question, as I mentioned in post 4, the driving question behind the topic, "How do we get a mass quantity of people" to show up, seems to fly in the face of everything that's happened here before. Is there a reason for that?

a.) How many people went from posting regularly to not at all, as opposed to simply registering and never making much impact?

b.) What good will new users do you if you only unregistered users see your ads? Will you be implementing ads for registered users?

or,

c.) Maybe you just want some more people posting here, and I'm being unfair.

We need some new blood. I can predict just about every conversation on this board from the first post in the thread.

I'd like to see some more activity in some threads. Not chat room activity, but I think we could have more discussions from more people.

I dunno - we're getting a check from Google soon and it seemed like reinvesting part of it in advertising the site might be a good idea. It wasn't all that well thought out (as you can tell, since I'm not placing the ad, now).

Well, I remember a year or so ago, when you guys first introduced the flags, looking in the lists to find the hidden countries. I found scores upon scores of people who register and didn't post.

I think when the marquee said wrestling board, you attract a certain creature, of a certain age or maturity level, and it expects a certain meal, most of which cannot comprehend the rules around here. When I first got here, I expected your typical wrestling board, and had to adjust "somewhat", from what I would normally post. Some folks just aren't that versatile.

BTW, do you really need new people, after almost 2 years, I'm finally getting used to the names. And I'm very protective of my "spot"

I know my brother, who registered in 2002, checks in only occasionally these days after a big show/story or when I e-mail him a link. He's been very busy being a dad and with non-stop work his leisure web browsing is fairly limited. He doesn't watch Smackdown and catches RAW maybe once a month. His interest (like mine) has shifted to MMA (Pride & UFC), Japan (NOAH) and Mexico (CMLL) with the WWE being so weak in the last year. So we trade tapes and still get the Observer, but with the board being almost WWE exclusive, he doesn't check in so often.

I've noticed what seems to be a lack of posts and new threads over the last few months (politics forum not included) and have just chalked it up to the lack of interest in wrestling. I really enjoy many of the other forums (random, baseball, football) and think the expansion of topics can help diversify the discussions.

You should post more about these things! I would be interested. Obviously I can't speak for everyone. But it would be nice if the wrestling folder had more diverse discussion than WWE and TNA.

I don't know how many other people I speak for when I say this, but it seems that because the number of different posters has diminished, the common posters and those that usually respond to them are the only ones that ever post in their threads. Not wanting to look stupid trying to talk about something you know nothing about, at least in the eyes of those people that post regularly and/or have high ratings, is a big deterrent that keeps me out of 95% of the threads.

*lurker mode off*

Dangit, I'm in a crisis! I'm just a minor-league semi-lurker here. I would post a little more here, but it'll indicate that I have no life at the moment.

Umm...I don't know what else to say. If I keep trying to find words any longer, my thoughts will end up printed as some ridiculous over-the-top flattery of the Zims. Thanks for reading tho. Must..contain..self...

But that's the problem. I'm usually uninterested in jumping in to a thread because I know exactly who will reply, and what they will say.

I'll take some of the blame for the downturn. I haven't been on as much lately, plus my girlfriend registered once here only just to post once, merely to attempt to annoy me, with failed results. I think.

I will post more, though.

Promise.
