Thanks Ryder, I have posted the story over in politics as well, for anyone (like me, for example) who wishes to discuss it in more general terms, so we can keep this discussion about Hassan. I hope the mods don't mind.

What something like this story hitting the news will mean for Hassan's character can only be guessed at. I'm curious to see if it's mentioned on the next live RAW.

Well, I admit, this is something I don't really have any optimism on. It's a damn shame too, because Hassan has a great look, he can talk really well, and he seems to have a good personality. But there's no way I can trust Vince McMahon with something this sensitive, because he never handles sensitive subjects sensitively, as far as I can remember. Maybe I forgot a couple of things, but I'm pretty sure they're few and far between.

One thing that especially irked me seeing his promo with Foley on tape wasn't the 9-11 references, but his entrance music. It irked me in a good way, because once you get past the arabic (I think) singing (at least the instant booing of that), I have to say it's a very nice theme. I dare say, it's the kind of music I would say that is perfect for making out or something. Very seductive, but with an edge, you see. It's just a nice sound to it. Hassan and Daivari I'm sure are cool people and true professionals for handling this subject, but this is Vince McMahon, and I hope they can get through it.

Agreed, they've been given a HOT plate and have to handle it carefully. I'm not disgusted by it, yet, but the subject matter involved is totally something that shouldn't have been touched now or probably not ever. I agree with you Ringmistress, I hope they can GET through it.

I've read security is ready in force at arenas in case anything untoward happens.

There was the story of Wrestlemania VII being moved because of threats of a sniper getting to Sgt Slaughter during the height of his Iraqi sympathiser angle.

Why does Vince think he has to heighten tension in times of conflict ?

We had Iron Sheik during the Iranian conflict. The Soviet threat was at its peak during the Cold War, then the Iraqi stuff, and now the Arab American angle.

Of course if the US has no battle to fight, its let's pick on Canada !

I speak as a Brit, and no offense to the American posters meant !

That was just a smokescreen for moving the event to a smaller venue after poor ticket sales, IIRC.

Let's go back to the 70's and 80's...

remember when out of no where a man would throw a fireball into someone else's face? That should happen again!

Hassan would be perfect to bring it back! Go through the Raw faces with the flame, hit Foley and then a returning HBK! Instant heel heat more than the racism stuff and more into wrestling. Explore an old stand-bye gimmick with a new star!

Kane could be the perfect foil, or allie for him.

Here's my view of the Hassan/Daivari angle: I'm usually one of the last people to find something offensive. And if I did, I would figure that no one else cares to hear why I think something might be offensive to me. But it just strikes me as hideous that the WWE debuts a character that "doesn't respect the troops" the same week that they go over to Iraq to entertain the troops. Now, I know that Mohammad Hassan is just a TV character, but the way they've pushed this character and the way that they pimped their trip to Iraq for the PR, it kind of makes me sick. There's no doubt that they are trying to capatalize on the War in Iraq and on 9/11, and I find that shameful.

This character is far less offensive then "Iraqi-Slaughter"

Sgt Slaughter praised Saddam Hussein then insulted the troops who were watching the live Survivor Series! This is far worse than anything this new character will attempt, I do not think the WWE has the balls to go that far again.

Insulting the troops has become a greater offence than murder and rape.

Sgt. Slaughter didn't turn the entire race of balding fatties heel with him.
