George Michael Hits Back in War of Words with Elton Tue Dec 14,12:41 PM ET
LONDON (Reuters) - Singer George Michael has issued a stinging reply to uncomplimentary remarks made by Elton John , which he said were garnered from gossip on the "gay grapevine."
In a very public spat between two of Britain's best known and successful gay artists, Michael published a letter in a celebrity magazine released on Tuesday in which he hit back at John's recent criticism of his private life.
In an interview with Heat magazine last month, 57-year-old John said Michael appeared to be in a "strange place," wasting his talent by staying at home and shunning the limelight.
He also described as "a bit disappointing" Michael's album "Patience," which topped the British charts this year.
"Elton John knows very little about George Michael, and that's a fact," Michael retorted in the letter.
"Sadly, I was always aware that Elton's circle of friends was the busiest rumor mill in town and that respect for my privacy was not exactly guaranteed.
"He knows that I don't like to tour, that I smoke too much pot and that my albums still have a habit of going to Number One. In other words, he knows as much as most of my fans do."
Michael, 41, said he had "rarely been as happy," thanks to his partner Kenny and the support of his fans.
John is renowned for outbursts about fellow stars. In October, he accused Madonna of "lip-synching."

It was followed in a later issue with a rebuttal letter to the editor...from none other than Francis Albert Sinatra, telling Michael to loosen up.

Why can't I rate you higher then a 10 for that? You obviously deserve a billion...
I just wanna see a fight between the two of them, and not a fight of words cause I believe Elton John can beat the shit outta George Michael quite easily. | Big Bad

In a related story, Elton John's latest album is kinda average, but George Michael's latest album is terrible. Advantage: Elton (though I'm biased since I'm a big Elton fan). | DrDirt

I'm not a huge fan of either but a bad Elton album is much better than a good George album. After George has been at it for over thirty years he can bitch. The major difference is that Elton John is actually talented, orientation aside. | StingArmy

I dunno. What about trading disses? It's going to be hard to beat the Elton John f/Eminem track.

Nope. He's thinking of Carvey as Michael on Weekend Update, trying to use the persuasion powers of his British Buttocks. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
