| #1 Posted on 3.4.02 1623.34 Reposted on: 3.4.09 1629.08 | Ok, I know this will probably sound dumb, but I don't care. That's why I'm not a writer. Actually, from the looks of WWF TV lately, that makes me PERFECT to be a writer!
Anyway, I'd like to see Rey team up with Billy Kidman when he gets back, reforming the filthy animals. They claim that they are the "WWF Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions" because they had that title in the WCW, and since all the WCW titles were brought into WWF (although all but the Cruiserweight were unified), that means that the Cruiserweight Tag title is now a WWF title, just like the CW. They go back to the WCW building, and it's all dusty and all, and they find the belts, ala Jim Duggan and the TV title. And um, I can't think of what would happen after that.
I wouldn't want the Cruiserweight Tag titles to be real titles, but I think they'd work as a short-term gimmick.
P.S. www.wrestling-titles.com mentions a "WCW Light Heavyweight Title" that was around for about a year in 91-92, and one of the names is "Scotty Flamingo." I seem to recall hearing that that was one of the former gimmicks of a current WWF star. Am I remembering correctly? Promote this thread! | | astrobstrd

*WARNING SMACKDOWN SPOILERS*
After Kidman has won the Cruiserweight Title on Smackdown, there is the build up to a Tajiri and Torrie split. Kidman is constantly seen with Torrie in the back and this upsets Tajiri. In a rematch set-up by Torrie, if Tajiri loses Torrie has to go with Kidman. This is a plan by Kidman and the newly turning heel Torrie to get back at Tajiri.
It is revealed about the "real life" relationship between Torrie and Kidman, and that Torrie has been lost without her real man. Her being with Tajiri was a favor to McMahon and Regal to keep the "Japanese Buzzsaw" from jumping to the Alliance, but has hated being around him. When Kidman "lost his job" Torrie was waiting for the chance to get him back in the company. Torrie used the "favor card" with Vince to get Kidman in the draft, and "by coinicidence" Torrie and Kidman ended up on the same show. The duo then figured that could get rid of Tajiri and win the Cruiserweight Title in the same breath.
After doing this, the "Ego Couple" go around claiming that Kidman is the greatest cruiserweight ever. This leads to them saying this to Vince, who by this time is getting annoyed by the two, and Vince says that at Backlash Kidman can face a Cruiserweight many people say is very good as well, in adds that he's behind in the room (behind one of those Oriental accordian dividers). The two think it's Tajiri (a trow off with the divider) and accept. Rey Mysterio Jr. comes out from behind the divider and says to Vince, "Now I accept your offer." and signs a contract.
This gets Rey onto Smackdown under the premise that the only way he would sign with Vince is if he got a Title shot. Now whether Rey wins at Backlash doesn't matter (better if he lost trhough cheating). This can set up him chasing the Title, and maybe even some matches with Tajiri setting up a #1 contender to Kidman's Title. | Lotty

While I'd like to see him back with his mask, I really doubt it will happen. I don't recall any wrestlers who lost their mask putting the mask back on (Killer Bees notwithstanding). Then again, I'm no expert on the subject. Any Lucha fans care to comment on this? | Notorious F.A.B.

| #8 Posted on 7.4.02 1320.40 Reposted on: 7.4.09 1326.43 | trineo's idea was good. the only bit i don't like about it is turning kidman heel. too much fantasy booking focuses on turning people, imo. the fed seems to have turned tajiri heel, so you want to follow up on that by having the guy he just faced turn heel too? i say keep the roles the same and focus on solidifying them when you fantasy book.
i like how trineo used the alliance storyline.
i also like rey only coming in when he was garaunteed a title shot, but such high profile debuts tend to backfire. tazz debuted at a ppv and handed kurt angle his first loss. great match, tazz got over as killer with a crowd that didn't know who the fuck he was, but it went to the guy's head. everyone's susceptible to that to one degree or another. plus, i think having a title shot be the worker's first match isn't a good idea
but i did like the storyline idea. just putting my two cents in. | The Sham

I think the best way to introduce Rey is a run-in with the mask. I can hear Michael Cole, "Who the hell is that, Tazz? Who's this mystery man?"
Of course, Rey pulls off his mask in the ring after a run-in or two. I think there are a lot of people who really won't know who he is, so seeing a masked guy hitting lucha style flips will be intriguing. This is the only kind of character I can see Michael Cole successfully putting over, since he always plays the Idiot's Advocate on commentary anyway.
Once Rey reveals his face, he should STILL keep the mask: The way that Foley did near the end of his run (before he returned to Cactus Jack). He wore the mask in the ring, but during his backstage skits, he just had it pulled up on top of his head.
The only thing that will completely disappoint me is if he redebuts with those gawdawful horns. | Sean

The problem is, of course, that Rey can't hit any of his trademark moves anymore - his knees are so shot and he has put on so much upper body mass that he just doesn't have the mobility that he did even 5 years ago. That's a damn shame, because one of the most athletically gifted wrestlers of all time is basically a wash-up at a very young age, and his return to the WWF will only hasten his path to the wheelchair. | spf

I seem to remember that people knew who Tazz was as they chanted his name for minutes already, and prior to the RR the only thing I heard outside MSG was 'Taz is going to debute'..this was NYC and they did know him.
As for Rey..you are right. Having him getting a title shot in his first match is wrong. If he wins it, then what? If he loses his heat is gone.
I assume with Kidman having the title Rey will run in either helping him or attacking him, depending if he is going to be heel or face. Both ways, they can quickly establish that these two have a huge past. | Qubber

Hopefully the WWF fans will already know who Rey is, but trying to establish him first (or any kind of an undercard cruiser roster contending for the belt) can only be a good thing. I really, really hope that the WWF is serious about producing a viable division of cruisers and things look good so far. Personally, I hope they keep Rey away from the belt for a while and have him feud with some other cruiserweight and build some depth to the division, and let Tajiri/Kidman play out as is. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
