From Animation HQ:

AnimationHQ last reported on American Dad on October 26th, 2004. This is an update to that report.

In a big show of confidence, Fox has asked for 6 more episodes of American Dad, the new series from Seth MacFarlane. This is of course before the first episode has even aired (it will air on Feb. 6th, after the Super Bowl). This new order brings the total up to 19 episodes. In addition, the network has asked for 8 more scripts beyond the episode total.

The show still seems too much like Family Guy to me, but I'll check it out. I'm still more excited about Family Guy being revived and hope it does well, not like Ren And Stimpy.

I'm not sure you can say "more confidence", since Family Guy got the post-Super Bowl in 1999.

Perhaps a bigger sign of Fox's confidence in Seth is that Fox is *finally* going to air the "ooh-so-infamous" Weinstein (thefutoncritic.com) episode in primetime. Either that, or Fox is finally getting its head out of its ass.

There's an interview with Seth at http://www.planet-familyguy.com where he talks about the older episodes and why they had to be censored when shown on FOX earlier in the year.

Basically, the standards have changed, and the network is cracking down. They now censor words like "Bastard", blur out cartoon butts (which is apparently fine on the Simpsons) and things like that. That's why I'm surprised that the Weinstein episode (which I just watched the other night) will be shown. I can see it now: "Take action against Family Guy for mocking religion, crude language, etc..." on the websites. It's no wonder Seth asked people to call the FCC and tell them that they had no problem with the MNF skit on that same website.
