When I heard about this, I thought to myself "oh no, another Rolling Stone list that will piss me off because the White Stripes and Coldplay will be in the Top 10". But after reading this list, I personally think this is the best one they have done. Sure, there are a few I disagree with, but as whole, not too shabby of a list.

I like Dylan, but to suggest that that's the best rock song of all time is, well, designed to stir up controversy and get more people to look at or read the magazine.
The above comment is even more applicable to the piece of sophomoric philosophical dreck that they rated at number 3.

Anyway, I love classic rock as much as everyone else, but it would be nice if these lists weren't just the same few songs shifted around. I just doesn't say much about the current music scene if nothing released in the last 10 years breaks into the top 50.

I think that's just a RS / Generation thing. Give it about 10-15 more years. I saw "Fuck tha Police" on there, among others, which shocked me, given how the hypocritical hippies (most of whom complied this list) vilified that song as the end of the world at the time and probably why NWA, PE, etc still hold up so well - that's usually how these lists work. Times They Are a-Changin' indeed...

Comintern? "Draped in the Hammer and Sickle"? Say what you will about it being a song celebrating a kind of utopian socialism, but I hardly think John Lennon was sitting there thinking, "Soviet Communism is the solution!" I don't think his idea was to celebrate an all-too-obvious form of iron tyranny; Lennon couldn't have loved Leninism. And the military aggression of the Hammer and Sickle turned him off too. But, lord, just because it's socialist doesn't make "Imagine" the anthem of some "Rooskie Commyooniss!"

Not sure what list you were looking at cause I see Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin both in the top ten. Then you got Otis Redding, Martha and the Vandellas, Smokey Robinson, Little Richard, The Ronettes, and Tina Turner all in the top 50 who you can always find in the R&B/Hip Hop section of you local music store.
It says this is the secound 'Top 500' list, does anyone have a link to the first one? I wouldn't mind seeing what's changed.
