Did anyone else see this? I thought Barrera won the fight, but I think that they TOTALLY screwed up having the English judge in there, and in turn HE screwed up the result, which by all rights SHOULD HAVE BEEN a majority draw.

A recap: Judge Larry O'Connell, who famously (infamously?) scored Holyfield/Lewis I a draw only to admit later that he screwed up and that, in his opinion, Lewis had in fact won the fight, as most believed.

After the scores are announced, 114-114, and 115-113 + 115-114 for Barrera, Jim Lampley explains that the deciding margin in the fight was that O'Connell scored round 11 10-10, despite the fact that there were NO knockdowns (like a flash knockdown of a guy who would have otherwise won the round) or points deducted. The other two judges managed to give the round to Morales, as did Howard Lederman keeping HBO's unofficial scoring. (He ended up with Barrera, 115-113.)

So, it basically comes down to this English judge, IMO, realizing he might end up scoring the fight a draw and throwing this 10-10 round in there to prevent it, ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that his previous, well-known, bad scoring decision was a draw.

I can't believe they let that guy judge another big-time championship fight. It was an INCREDIBLE fight, though, and if you missed it they'll show the replay Saturday during the Taylor/Joppy broadcast.

Incredible fight, the more the fight the better they get. No doubt there's a IV in the making for next year. But did you get a chance to see the pummeling my boy Ivan Calderon gave on the undercard...woohoo...that was as one sided fight as I ever seen while keeping competitive. He is def one of the bright lights coming out of the island.
