| #1 Posted on 24.11.04 0524.32 Reposted on: 24.11.11 0524.45 | After about 5 years of procrastinating and debating whether or not I should even try, I have decided to write a novel. The reason I am starting this thread is to look for ideas.
The novel will be a collection of short stories joined together by an over-arching story (a frame story). The main plot concerns a twenty-something slacker who discovers random scrawlings and half-formed ideas in the room of another twenty-something boarder. He then crafts stories around the random ideas he finds. The story will deal with the idea of the interpretation of ideas and just what symbolism means to humanity...and being my first novel, it will probably do so poorly.
What I'm asking for (pretty please?) is a random assortment of ideas to be the basis of the short stories. As the story is about interpreting the ideas of others, I want to...well...interpret the ideas of others. I looking for anything, but the shorter and more obtuse the better: Brief character sketches, Incomplete or flawed story ideas, random gibberish, shopping lists, whatever. I'm asking friends, former teachers, and forumers at a few other message boards to contribute. I won't use every idea, but every idea is appreciated. In the unlikely event that the novel is published, I will list anyone who contributed an idea or spark I used. | Promote this thread! | | Sec19Row53

How about bunch of potty-mouthed cartoon character 3rd graders - nah, Simpson's did it?

| #4 Posted on 24.11.04 1553.14 Reposted on: 24.11.11 1554.32 | Male lead- recent High School graduate, slightly clumsy, stutters, very shy, works as short order cook.
1st Female lead- Also, recent HS grad. Otherwise completely opposite. Pretty, easygoing, talkative, waitress at same place. Maybe starting to show a little bit of wear and tear from the daily grind or maybe not.
2nd Female lead- Manager. Older(Maybe mid 40's/early 50's), formerly very pretty, but looking worn & haggard. Hard of hearing already. Due to this, very loud / obnoxious. Usually preoccupied with some form of paperwork. Very hard on Male lead.
Story: Short excerpt of interaction (maybe 5 or 10 minutes). Takes place on a rainy night when there are no customers. Male lead has crush on 1st Female lead and has decided to tell her. She is oblivious to him as anything but co-worker. 2nd Female lead is slightly jealous of 1st Female lead's current beauty and the attention that she receives. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
