Ok, so its not going to be a mythology movie, my question is then what is the point? They totally screwed up the end of X-Files with coming back in season 9 after a great ending in season 8. They left ten unanswered questions to do a stand alone when there is no X-Files team, makes no sense. I just wish they would let this thing die instead of trying to cash in again.

Or should you say "a ripoff of http://thehollywoodnews.com/news/news746.php"

EDIT: ...which is a ripoff of http://movieweb.com/news/news.php?id=5950 from last Wednesday, which is a ripoff of the SFX article. Wow... way to go, Inside Pulse. That's very INSIDE. You're on the PULSE. Time to move to site bashing.

Are you looking for a reply more complicated than "the network can make money from it?"

No, I just don't know how they can write the huge hole they dig from themselves after the finale. I think its pointless and the first X-Files movie was successful, but not huge either. I don't see them making much if any money on this.

X-files movie was the first of it's kind IIRC. I don't think I've ever seen a TV show turn into a movie when the TV show was still on.

I really loved the X-files, one of my favorite shows of the 90's. Mulder & Scully was such a great combo only if Duchovny and Anderson do the movie I'll consider watching it, but the last few season of X-files it really seemed to have run it's course.

I was a big fan of the 'Files for most of its run, but stopped watching around the time Duchovny and Anderson were both taking time off. I've caught some of the Doggett/Reyes episodes in syndication, and surprised myself by actually liking many of them.

My problem with the end of the series (and thus my skepticism that another movie will be any good) is that they botched the storyline, IMO. It got to the point for me where the only episodes I really liked were the less episodic, stand-alone sort of crime/mystery episodes. The conspiracy/alien aspect of the show really crapped the bed for me when they killed off all of Cancerman's cronies and then, in the coup de grace, discovered that Mulder's sister was some sort of... ghost.

My problem with the show is that season 8 ends perfectly for the series that doing season 9 killed whatever momentum they had. The stuff in season 9 like killing the Lone Gunmen, Spendor returning from a gunshot to the head, convicting Mulder of murder, giving away the baby and having Cancer Man return just to be killed ten minutes later, made no sense. It was like they saw how good Season 8 was and decided they had to fuck everyone over instead of canning the season and doing a movie.

Granted, the movie has to clear up a ton of stuff like re-opening the X-Files to start with. There is material to work with, but if its going to be a stand alone movie, then why bother going to see something like that.

I'd be there on opening day for something like that. I've always preferred the stand-alone X-Files episodes to any of the mythology silliness. (Granted, I used to think the mythology episodes were wonderful and awesome, but I've found that they're not nearly as re-watchable as the stand-alones.) If Chris Carter would release a DVD set with all the stand-alone episodes on 12+ discs, I'd buy it; I hate putting in an X-Files DVD and finding that three of four episodes on it are deadly serious mythology episodes when all I want to do is veg out and see something offbeat, creepy/funny and intelligent.

Anyway, as for the grousing about, "How do they do this movie?" how about they antedate it? Just because it's released in 2005 or 2006 doesn't mean it has to take place then. The show covered such a span of time that it's easy for us to believe that the events of a movie could have been sandwiched somewhere in the timeline.
