Did anyone see Artest's interview on Today this morning?

I was so happy I was late for work this morning b/c any sympathy I felt for Artest is gone. All the guy did on the show was talk about "staying positive" and plug his stupid CD. He even bitched about having to replace the camera he broke and how he never got the broken equipment (WTF?)

I was wishing that he would actually say something of substance but as they say "wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which one gets filled first". This was his chance, at least in my opinion, to come out and show a different side of himself. He seemed like he had an attorney talking to him while he was doing the interview.

He even made light of Ben Wallace's family member dying by basically saying "..well I had a family member die too recently but that doesn't mean I have to act crazy".

Artest has no balls, he knows that Wallace (who is arguably the most muscular and baddest dude in the NBA) would mop the floor with him.

Artest seemed a little off-point with a lot of his comments. He talked a lot about what a great league the NBA was and that fans should come out and see the players play and blah blah blah. Buy my new CD.

He really appears to be somewhat unstable.

Definitely unstable, but when he started rambling about the league's top players and capped the whole thing off with "Enjoy Kobe Bryant!" I laughed. Quality entertainment.

One of my biggest pet peeves are obnoxious fans, huge pet peeve of mine especially if they throw something or jump on the field of play. So I'd be so cheering if one of these fans get punched out, but in this case Artest hit the wrong guy which is a blunder to say the least.

Over the years you really see more and more cases of stuff like that in sports and even in wrestling, not so long ago Eddie Guerrero went after a fan who poured a beer on his as he was selling near the rail and Eddie went after him. Every Bills game I go to I see some jerk jump on the field and being chased down in the 4th quarter... I think a big problem is that we really don't know what punishment these idiot fans get after doing this. Getting thrown out of the stadium in the 4th quarter of a blow out football or basketball game hardly seems like major consequences. If they announce that you WILL be prosecuted and thrown in the slammer for a night of you jump on the field/court of play or throw something, might actually stop this stuff.

There are no good guys here, but it really stinks is that Detroit Piston fan got scoreboard as they ruined one of their biggest competition to their team... I read this entire thread but I don't think I've seen this posted but the guy who threw the first cup has 3 DUI's on his record, hoooow shocking! I wonder if he got those DUI's driving home from Piston games. I talked about this before & not very popular stance here I really think professional sports should look into their beer sales and cut off time (or if I had my way not sell it at all)

The thing you didn't consider, though, is what if Artest didn't do anything to "defend" himself? Sure the original drink thrower probably wouldn't have another drink to throw, but what about the other fans around? It's possible that they'd think, "Hey, he didn't do anything. We should do the same thing. Free reign!"

So EVERYONE is going to throw a drink simply because ONE person does it? And Artest is justfied for going into the stands and beating people up?

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense.

You conveniently left out the part of my statement where I said that wasn't necessarily likely. It's not out of the realm of possibilities, but I don't think I would personally argue that.

To further clarify, the law says that when someone is being threatened with force that may cause them bodily harm (or if a third person is being threatened with force), you have the privilege to defend yourself (or that other person) with reasonable force so long as the threat persists. Was there a persistant threat being posed to Artest? Maybe. This is what I meant about people starting to throw crap at him after the first guy threw the cup. Was the force he used to combat that threat reasonable? Not likely, but it's possible. That's why these things go to court, to let a jury decide if his actions were reasonable.

Ron Artest interviewed on NBC's Today (You need Windows Media Player.)

This interview is hilarious for all the wrong reasons. Just 2 things to note:
1) Watch how many times he says "positive".
2) Watch how often he shills his damn CD.

For those who haven't already seen it on Boing Boing, here is Picasso's Guernica reimagined as the Pistons/Pacers Brawl 4 All, complete with tossed blue cups, a white baseball cap and a flying chair.

I counted 11 "positives" - or about one a minute.

I also counted two blatent CD shills, plus another where Lauer asked about it first.

I guarantee you his album goes platinum - and I'd love to see Ron Ron's reaction if it did and the Pacers won a championship without him (well, I accomplished one of my life goals, so I'd say it's been a pretty positive year for me...).

It'll be interesting to see if he'll make up his suspension losses in the increased album sales.

Um, is it too late to take you up on that guarantee? Also, did anyone else realize that "his album" is actually an R&B album by the girl group Allure? He sure didn't do a good job making THAT clear. Apparently he's doing his own rap album that will come out at some point. Guess he has plenty of time on his hands to do that.

EDIT:

Can't add a new reply so I'll just edit this one.

Here come the charges.

http://www.detnews.com/2004/pistons/0411/30/A01-19464.htm

Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca said Monday that Indiana Pacers players will be charged in The Palace brawl.

Gorcyca said it's indisputable that members of the team punched fans. Auburn Hills Police said specifically that four members of the Pacers were caught on tape in the Nov. 19 melee when the Pistons played the Pacers at The Palace.

"Whoever was involved in fisticuffs will be charged, regardless if they were wearing a jersey. It's obvious there were several Pacer players and fans that dealt blows," said Gorcyca, who declined to specify which players or what charges he expects to file.

In addition, Police Lt. James Manning said he expects four players, Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal, Stephen Jackson and David Harrison, will face assault and battery charges. He said police will forward their formal recommendations on charges to Gorcyca as early as next week.
