Well, you knew Jose Guillen wouldn't remain in Anaheim after his temper tantrum. At this point, I'm glad the Angels got ANY sort of return for him, even if it's just a bench player (maybe potential lead-off man?) in Juan Rivera. Here's hoping Guillen can stay on his best behavior this time.

So this team without any owners is really spending the big bucks now. I don't think Guillen's good enough to pick up a large contract and his personal problems, but since when did attitude problems become a reason not to have a guy on your team. Of course, it doesn't look like they gave much up for him, so maybe it is a good move.

Guillen only had a 2 year/$6 million dollar deal with Anaheim, so the Expos/Nationals/Vegas Showgirls only have to pay him $3 million for 1 year. Guillen did put up good numbers this past season, and he'll probably be .275/25/90 at worst. Right now, the Expos might be able to at least provide the delusion to their fan base that they will play meaningful games in August, as they look to be a 78-84 win team, which, in the NL East, will at least keep them on the fringe of contention after the All-Star break. Plus, if the team goes into the tank, some contending team that desperately needs an outfield bat will probably overpay in terms of prospects at the deadline.

Bowden also acquired Guillen when he was with the Reds, so he must think that he'll be something more resmebling a model citizen for the Nats...

Yeah, I just assumed that since he signed a new contract before 2004 and he had a pretty good end of 2003 that he would be making more than 3.5 mil a year. So I retract my first statement; he's worth the investment (for all my stamp of approval means to the Nats).

I'd guess around the time Anaheim decided to trade Guillen due to attitude problems
