There is really no such thing as a free lunch,” said David Keith, a professor of energy and the environment at the University of Calgary and lead author of the report, which appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

    Specifically, if wind generation were expanded to the point where it produced one-10th of today's energy, the models say cooling in the Arctic and a warming across the southern parts of North America should happen.

And yet the key part of this study is how many wind generators would probably be needed to make a difference.

We're not going to change over night, and we're not going to go all out wind power. We're always going to get our energy from a large diversity of sources, including solar and tidal when the technologies become better.

In the mean time, the drive for wind power is going at a pace that allows for corrections if need be.

And again, a wind power company is far more likely to do things in an environmentally sensitive manner then a coal, nuclear or oil company, who consistently seek to block further environmental regulations.
