Paraphrasing (please tell me where I'm off here) The "red" states hate Federal taxes and want to decrease them. More Federal taxes come from the "blue" states and go to the "red" states.
If that paraphrasing is accurate, what's the beef? Would it be better if the "red" states asked for more?
I also think we need a Celebrity Deathmatch between "Arrogant" and "Holier Than Thou" for the "No, really, I'm better than you" championship because apparently one is more OK than the other. | rockstar

But since we are talking in black in white, or, red and blue.
I do find, that backwood, three toothed morons from the "red" states treat me with more respect and kindness then the great fountains of tolerance from the "blue" states, way more down to earth. Thats how I judge a person, not by economic, religious or educational standards. So if am forced to pledge allegiance to either New York or Mobile, Yuppie or Redneck, I'll take the southern road.

Keep up the good work.

By the way, it would probably more accurate to descibe the divide as "rural vs. urban" than geographically, if you look at voting maps. Though even within the "red" and "blue", it is plenty divided, millions voted for Kerry even in the South.
I just can't believe anyone thinks there is really a good argument even without the profanity there. People should just defer judgement to Northerners because of events that happened well over 200 years ago? The tax situation has some merit, but that has a lot more to do with just having too many pork projects and two senators from every state to go get them. That distribution has and would be true, whether the President is "red" or "blue". Gay marriage was only an issue in what, 8 or 9 of the 50 states? Hardly wholly responsible for "blue's" defeat, though some want to make it out that way. Anyway, while you will find hypocrisy on the marriage issue, I think you can find it all over the country, not limited to just one particular region.
Mainly, you just can't say that any state or region did something wrong just merely because more people voted for a candidate you didn't like over one you did. What you have here is a silly profanity-laced rant. Take the profanity away, you are still left with a silly rant, not a well-reasoned argument. | SeVen ™

| #13 Posted on 13.11.04 1440.55 Reposted on: 13.11.11 1441.17 | I was under the impression one of the author's main points is that, by voting for Bush in large numbers, which the red states, a large number of which are in the South, did, they voiced their support of the traditional Republican platform of smaller government. By voting Kerry, the blue states, many of which are in the Northeast, voiced their support of the traditional Democratic platform of larger government. This is all theoretical, of course, because it is impossible to know how each voter came to a decision. But to follow the point through, this appears to be an hypocritical outcome, especially from the Southern point of view, seeing as how they are major beneficiaries of the Democratic platform of tax and spend.
If the typical Southerner wants less Federal government, that's fine, but at the same time, they need to put their hands back in their own pockets and fund their own local projects, not have them out asking for the tax monies coming from states who do (theoretically) support the idea of a larger government. Granted, a lot of that begging comes from pork gobbling senators; and Republicans don't really want a smaller government, they just want a different source for that tax money and to spend it differently than Democrats. | SirBubNorm

| #14 Posted on 14.11.04 0809.15 Reposted on: 14.11.11 0813.53 | I guess we've got to agree to disagree, because you know what? As a Republican, I don't want more tax money from anyone. Government can't give anything to anybody that it hasn't taken away from someone else.
I also don't think we should tax the differing brackets differently (maybe that's what is being referred to). I have a friend who at the end of the year quit working for X number of days because he had been following his taxes/income close enough to realize that if he worked those days, he was going to be pushed up a tax bracket and doing so was going to cost him more money then he could make.
