Weakest rumor out of Denver (of all places) is that Mike Shanahan may be interested in the Dolphins job. Or that Shanahan may be holding out for the Notre Dame job. Source was former Broncos beat reporter Adam Schefter, now of the NFL Network. Broncos are off this weak...so I guess they need something to gab about in Donkey-land

Schefter has spread bogus rumors before...such as assuring Shanahan's departue to Univ. of Florida in Jan 02, and declaring that Shannon Sharpe was all but delivered to Arizona in 1997.

Like I said, I think it's just a (VERY) weak rumor.

A priest that works at Notre Dame who is a friend of the family, says Ty's job was in danger prior to the Boston College game. I don't know how it stands after the Tennesse win, but if Ty beats USC, which is the 11th commandment thou shall not lose to USC, it will secure his job. If he does lose, but wins the bowl game over someone like FSU or Miami it will go also help.

I don't know if Shanahan can handle working at ND. There are ton of pressure there and with the new emphasis on academics instead of titles has the campus split. It would hard for anyone to go in there right now and "fix" the program. I think they will honor Ty's contract and by looking at the schedule next year, no Boston College yea, he should be able to at least contend for a nation championship if not win it. If he has another sub par season ie 7-4 or 8-3 then they won't renew his contract.

Notre Dame does not fire coaches on their first contract. They didn't fire Faust(who they should have fired), they didn't fire Davie(who they should have fired), so they won't fire Ty(who they should fire). And, if they were willing to take the PC media hit for firing Ty, Shanahan wouldn't be the next head coach. The head coach of Utah would be in the slot within 20 minutes of it opening.

I don't think they will fire him, but I don't think it will be that big of a PR hit, since they've been Jekyll and Hyde in his tenure. When you lose to BYU, Boston College and get blown out by Purdue all the while you beat Michigan and go to Tennesse and win, its head scratching time. Like, I said, I don't think he will get his contract renew if he has another season like this one. Notre Dame's goal every year is to win the championship anything else is a disappointment and everyone knows it. Its a very lofty goal, but its the goal they set every year and since 1993 have not come close to. That is why every team circles Notre Dame on their schedule, because even a single lose is a death sentence in college football.

I don't know much about the Utah coach, but I don't think he has seen the kinda of pressure Notre Dame puts on their coaches. Its easy to coach without a spotlight on you 24/7. You have to have an iron will to coach there that is why Holtz last so long, because he curtailed the boosters and minus the last two years, Notre Dame was in the championship hunt or at least in the top five. When he started losing, he was gone. If you don't win, you are out. They do give you some time to build a team, but after that team if you still losing 2 or 3 games a season, you are gone. I don't know how anyone could deal with and I don't see anyone in the field of candidates being able to handle it.

Denver papers reported today (11/11) that Shanahan was absolutely shocked to hear his name mentioned for the Dolphins' vacancy. He denied having any interest at all in the job, and that a TV report was the first time he had heard of it.

And hey...why do I get the feeling that someone will start a future thread about Tyrone Willingham's job security...and a poster will reply with "already discussed this in the Dave Wannstedt thread"?! :)
