This is odd, and I can't believe it got past me without noticing.

It seems that Comedy Central has ben showing South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, UNCUT since last year. Not a single F-Bomb edited out.

It's part of a new programing slot called Comedy Central's Secret Stash on Saturday nights at 1:00am in which ther're gonna start showing movies and some shows unedited with cursing and nudity intact.

Along with the South Park movie, they've got JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, THE QUEENS OF COMEDY, RICHARD PRYOR: LIVE IN CONCERT, SCARRY MOVIE 2, EDDIE MURPHY: RAW, and they're gonna show some unedited episodes of Chappelle's Show and other stuff.

While I think it's a cool idea, I hope it doesn't blow up in their face and have watchdog groups all over it. The FCC seems to not have a problem with it since it's so late at night, but for the past few weeks, they've been getting close to 2 million viewers for the time slot, which is pretty big by cable standards, especially that late at night and usually, the more people that know about this kinda stuff means there's more people to complain.

I believe the FCC only has power over broadcast (free) networks. I think cable networks only police themselves to keep the uptight from bitching and costing them sponsors.

That's correct, you have to pay a fee to see Comedy Central (even if it isn't directly) which the FCC views as a choice on the part of the viewer. Broadcast television can be viewed by anyone with a television for free, so the FCC feels the need to police the content of the broadcast networks.

Comedy Central probably feels that any kind of revenue that they may possibly lose between 1AM est and 3AM est, normally a poorly sold time period anyway, will hopefully be made up by the increased ratings of the uncust shows.

It's probably the main reason (minus the money) that Stern's going to XM.

Wow, I didn't know that there was a whole line of programming like this, so to speak. I thought it was just the special occasions that came up every few months where they would show the South Park movie uncut. Indeed this is pretty cool on the part of Comedy Central, watchdogs be damned.

They're not really the first to do this. The original "Night Flight" way back in its USA Network days (we're talking early 80's here) didn't edit anything they ran either.

BBC America also basically leaves language and at least brief nudity in their programming.

BTW, am I the only one who misses USA Up All Night with Gilbert Gottfried?

no no ...Rhonda Shear...grrrrowl!
Loved how she said it...
UP...all night!

The stash started in summer with south park uncut and Jay and silent bob, then it came back with Rock's stand up and been going on for a month and some and hopefully will keep going on. Nothing better to get home late and have Rock or Pryor dropping F'bombs on your basic cable.

Night Flight! I'll always remember that show for introducing me to the wonderful world of Andy Warhol film's such as BAD, DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN, nudity, gore and all.

Thank you USA Network.

Oh yeah, and they also showed Power Rangers first, albeit hilariously dubbed.

Gratuitous sex, violence, and cursing = Late night ratings. Some of the same envelope pushing materal the WWE has used for years.

Anyways, Comedy Central is playing this smart and they're reaping the benifits.
