I'm not sure if anyone noticed or not watching the Pistons/Rockets game but during the Championship ceremony. The Pistons just so happened to have replicas of the Raw World Title with their names on the plates.
I am currently hoping for decent screencaps to arrive b/c this is just priceless.
Sorry, Clinton Portis. You got upstaged. :)

I'd still like to find a photo of the whole team standing together, though ... Apparently, Rasheed Wallace was the one who went out and purchased all the belts for them; that must'a cost him a pretty penny

EDIT: Hmm, ESPN provides an interesting comment on their front page :
Sporting huge, gold-plated black belts provided by Rasheed Wallace, the Pistons opened defense of their title in much the same manner they won it: defense.
Was it really so hard to call them "championship belts"? I mean, to go into detail like that - "Sporting belts which consisted of a black strap and a large semi-circular gold-plated decoration on the front side"; yeesh.

I could see why a legitimate sports writer would have a problem calling a replica wrestling title "a championship belt".

I was more impressed by the rings. Those things were frickin' HUGE. And a local firefighter won a ring of his own by entering a drawing (and, thus, cheating me out of my rightful property :)). | The Thrill

Now watch the WWF refer to this in their lawsuit against WWE as an example of WWE "not doing enough" to make people aware of the name change. | Alessandro

| #15 Posted on 8.11.04 1413.48 Reposted on: 8.11.11 1415.21 | Originally posted by Sean Deveney of SportingNews.Com The new rings weren't the only gaudy accessories the Pistons received last week. There also were boxing-style championship belts, which were to symbolize the mentality the Pistons would need entering this season. They would have to defend their title as a fighter would defend his crown. "This is a mano-a-mano game," Ham says. "We're in a heavyweight league, so we have to play like a heavyweight team."
The belts were provided by power forward Rasheed Wallace, who actually was inspired by WWE wrestling, not boxing.
He even mentions wrestling, but tries to pass them off as "boxing-style" belts ... Oy.
