According to many sites, the Fund is sueing WWE for "loss/confusion of business" damages...

Basically the Fund believes WWE hasn't done enough to set themselves apart from the World Wildlife Fund...

I don't know what else the WWE can do. They did change their name, fogged out the letters on past teleivision shows and pretty much spent millions to do just that. I just think the Panada people have a terrible PR department thats what it comes down to. If you can't tell the difference between an E and an F, God can't help you. Also, if you can't tell the difference between saving animals and wrestling, I don't know what to tell you. I would like to thank the WWF for putting the Great White Shark on the endangared species list. So, now Jaws can devour you in the ocean and no one is allowed to help you out. Fucknig tree loving hippies.

This has better not turn into one of those "SHIT! I'm gonna go ROCK BOTTOM a SQUIRREL!" threads. Or else I will ... go ROCK BOTTOM a SQUIRREL.

If anything, the WWE should sue the WWF for compensatory damages. They spent a shitload of money on the "Get the F Out" campaign, a shitload of money editing their video library to get the scratch logo out, and they haven't MENTIONED the letter F for about a year.

Seriously, the Pandas should get over it. I'm guessing this suit gets thrown out, as the WWE traditionally has pretty good lawyers.

I'm guessing you're not basing this on the LAST WWF vs. WWF lawsuit.

Looks to be a case of WWF just wanting more money. Essentially, if you read their lawsuit press release, they're saying that whenever someone in the public says "WWF," others immediately think it's the WWE that's being referred to. Well, excuse me, but the only solution that'll erase THAT is if the WWF changes THEIR name. Really, either change your name since this is NEVER going to change... or accept it and move on. The first lawsuit had merit, and the WWF rightfully won. But this one reeks of desperation and "we're at the end of the road, our business here is going nowhere, let's blame it on someone else."

I agree with CRZ, Vince's lawyers are not that great against the WWF. They did get a major victory out of USA Network and most of their talent. I don't think the first one had merit at all considering their basis was the fact that WWF.com violated their international agreement with the panada people. My comment to that will be is the internet an international device espically if the server is in the U.S.? Its a huge legal question dealing with the internet. I also didn't think it helped by having an international court decide either, but thats how it went.

This lawsuit does have a lot to do with poor PR. The WWF, the wrestling organization, is more well known and that is their gripe. Hell, I didn't even know there was another WWF till the lawsuit happened anyway.

The WWF should change their name and get on with it. Still today when i watch TV when people mention wrestling they say WWF cause they don't know better and this will be the case for many, many years. The WWF has already devastated many WWE fans with archive footage being basically ruined. Even though the old WWF wrestling name is long gone it will always be more popular in general curcumstances then the WWF wildlife group and even the WWE.

I'm thinking they totally need to bring in Prince Philip for a one-shot with Vince at WM 21.

doesn't the WWF (world Wildlife fund) also operate under another name too? Something like World fund for Nature (WFN) or something like that?

The Panda people were 100% right in the first lawsuit. I mean, as frivilous lawsuits go. There was not, is not, and never will be confusion between the two entities but they won the suit on the basis of McMahonland's blatant violation of their legal agreement. That was their in. It had nothing to do with whether their theoretical stance was that wrestling was converging on their potential to exist fruitfully; I mean, they said it was but that was legalese bullshit.

This time, though, considering all WWE has done to differentiate something that needed no differentiation, I don't see what ground the Pandas have to stand on. It's obvious that they want more money, maybe they've come on tough times.

The Panda has already beaten Vinnie down enough. This whole WWE and WWF thing is just a nuisance that gets in the way. I guess you kick while he's down. WWE is very vunerable right now and Panda just adds on the punishment. I think the E could make a comeback (Over the panda at least). Is it time for Goldberg?

Didn't the World Wildlife Fund people complain that McMahon's change from WWF to WWE wasn't good enough? Meaning, with the logo, the lettering, and everything else?

I'm guessing the Panda huggers wanted him to totally get the "WW" out, too.

Vince should countersue for legal damages, any lost revenue (if possible) and maybe bankrupt them. Wonder if he can do that?

COme to think of it...is there a way someone can find out the financial status of a registered charity? Perhaps it's a last ditch effort for the Panda people to score some quick cash or else fold.

I pretty much agree with all the panda people bashing that has gone on so far. I will say that Vince/WWE should sue them, if not for damages, tehn for retroactive use of the WWF scratch logo and the initials. I love the old footage, but then they dub the audio everytime you hear "wwf" that really sucks.

If the Fund is upset over "WWF" used as a wrestling-referenced term, that's a battle they can't win. The WWE can change their name to GESE (Global Empire of Sports Entertainment) for example (something completely different from "WWF") and it still won't matter: parts of the general public will still associate the old "WWF" name with wrestling.

And I think the reason why people still associate "WWF" with wrestling is basically the Fund's original lawsuit that forced the name change in 2002 wasn't really that mainstream, when you think about it. And basically, it's the non-fans that don't know, or forget, about the name change. I remember a date earlier this year with my current girlfriend who hates wrestling; we were at a bar having drinks, I think one of the recap shows popped on TV and she's like, "Oh, boy, WWF is on..." Just my opinion, but it's not the WWE's responsibility to educate non-fans about their own name change.

I believe "don't do the crime, if you can't do the time" would apply here. Vince shouldn't sign agreements he intends to blatantly ignore, or else he'll get called on it (sooner or later).

How has he ignored it recently though? And is there any proper evidence for this claim? As WWE have gone out of their way to not mention this in ages.

This is more like, "do the crime, do the time, and then continue to get screwed over".

The way I figure it, Vince should counter sue because realisticly he can argue the name change cost him millions upon millions in revenue.

Add to that the low ratings and buyrates and attendence and boom you got a good counter suit.

But they need to file it an American court. I still don't buy the whole British court ruling.

If that case were in an American court the WWE would still be the WWF today.

Of course if Vince just bought the damn name off them in the first place we wouldnt be in this situation now would we.

As I understand it (and correct me if I'm wrong), the WWFund had the initials 1st, and (short version) Vince agreed to not use them so as to not confuse the 2 companies. If that is, in fact, the case, I don't see how the WWE would be able win that countersuit. It's his own fault he got into the mess.

Again, let me know if I'm way off base in my understanding of the basics of this case.
