Say, for instance, give a "One-fingered victory salute?"

Site that has it, btw, is here.

That out of the way... from a broadcasting standpoint, G.W.B. should know one of the two golden rules of broadcasting:

1) Always assume the mic is hot.
2) Always assume that if a camera is on you, it's probably taping.

Naw, this won't affect Bush in the least. If anything, it'll have the effect that Clinton's affair had on him. It'll make him MORE popular because it'll make people think he's one of them.

No, this won't effect him. There's already video of him rambling on, in an obvious drunken state. Plus, Bush Sr., right after a debate, walked over to someone and said "We kicked a little ass tonight!", not knowing there was a microphone right above him. And he ended up winning.

Fun video, though.

Of course, if this was John Kerry, it would incontrovertible proof that he's mentally unfit to hold office.

Nah, that's ok, there's already MORE than enough proof of that without using photos like that. :)

The only "Bush didn't know the camera was on" moment that hurt my opinion of him was the whole cleaning of his glasses on the back of the shirt of that Letterman producer.

Remember when Kerry using the F word made him unfit to be President?

His picture with Jane Fonda has already accomplished that.

Of course, that photo was phony...

Wow, this thread is really bringing out the best and brightest.

I might as well add that this footage is at least four years old and I sure hope we don't get someone's conspiracy theory about why it's making the rounds now, because that would just be the perfect capper for this thread.

I was just wondering where all of our morally outraged posters had gone. But on second thought, I can understand how dropping an F bomb in Rolling Stone is a lot more relevant than a four year old video of a candidate flipping the bird.

-Jag

Actually, nevermind. I just re-read what I wrote, and have come to the conclusion that neither of these things are relevant to holding elected office. So, in essence, I was attempting to further emphasize an irrelevant point from a months old thread that I can't even find using the search engine. So, uh yeah. Hooray. So to get back to where we were:

That whatever my stance was in a months old thread was RIGHT, and whoever happened to disagree with me at the time are still WRONG.

And that's what we get with 4am introspection, folks!

I don't know much about the clip or the context, so it's hard to be outraged. Did it happen four years ago, Like CRZ said? Was it "private", that is, not officially for public consumption?

You see, when a politicial "officially" has a moral lapse, like if they're in the middle of an interview that is going to be published in a magazine, major or not, that's an issue. Becuase then it seems like their official stance is that it's OK.

This clip looked to me as if the President was goofng around (I suspect I could more accurately say "The Governor") while they were doing a sound check. Not unlike when The Great Communicatior said we were going to start bombing Russia in 5 minutes. Not perfect, sure. A little problematic, maybe. An issue? I don't think so.

No more than if I heard about one of the candidates calling someone a name in a more or less private way. If Bush said, from the stump, in a speech, "Hey, that Kerry's an ass", that might be a different story.

I guess that, for me, it lets me know that Bush isn't perect - which I knew - and that it's interesting what people drag up during a presidential race.

I only post this because it rings true for both candidates.

Whether it's John Kerry in a NASA outfit, Dukakis in a tank or our president flipping off the camera four years ago -- watch what you do around photogs. It's that simple.

Where does Cheney telling Sen. Pat Leahy to "Go f*ck himself" at the floor of the Senate fall under the okay time to swear.

Bush flipping the bird, reminds me of something Mic Foley said recently in an interview. He thinks George Bush is wanting to be Stone Cold Steve Austin so much, with the swagger & Texas attitude. Now we see him giving middle finger salutes, Foley is so observant lol.

Do you people honestly believe that Kerry and Bush don't use every word imaginable to describe each other (behind closed doors, of course)? Why is flipping the bird about something 4 years ago so shocking to anybody? I can easily picture Bush and Kerry both calling each other "fucking assholes". I don't need some archived footage of an unrelated incident or a secret mike of Cheney saying "go fuck himself" to shock me. These people are clearly not above going to that level. They're politicians.

As I said, that's true enough. But it's when someone goes on the record, so to speak with profanity or adultery or any other moral lapse that seems a bit problematic to me.

Take Clinton. He had NO intention of anyone catching him. I don't have a particular problem with him dallying with Monica. His wife should, of course. But he wasn't intending to tell people it was OK to have extra-marital sexual relations. Most of the cursing you hear about with Pols (like the Bush finger or the "he's a real asshole" statement from awhile back, or the chaney line to whoever it was earlier this year) is not intended for public consumption. But the article in RS WAS. And that's the issue, for me.
