1) Always assume the mic is hot. 2) Always assume that if a camera is on you, it's probably taping.

Of course, that photo was phony...
Wow, this thread is really bringing out the best and brightest.
I might as well add that this footage is at least four years old and I sure hope we don't get someone's conspiracy theory about why it's making the rounds now, because that would just be the perfect capper for this thread. | Jaguar

Yeah, I do. What was your point again?
I was just wondering where all of our morally outraged posters had gone. But on second thought, I can understand how dropping an F bomb in Rolling Stone is a lot more relevant than a four year old video of a candidate flipping the bird.
-Jag
Actually, nevermind. I just re-read what I wrote, and have come to the conclusion that neither of these things are relevant to holding elected office. So, in essence, I was attempting to further emphasize an irrelevant point from a months old thread that I can't even find using the search engine. So, uh yeah. Hooray. So to get back to where we were:
Originally posted by CRZ What was your point again?
That whatever my stance was in a months old thread was RIGHT, and whoever happened to disagree with me at the time are still WRONG.

| #15 Posted on 28.10.04 0543.13 Reposted on: 28.10.11 0547.09 | I don't know much about the clip or the context, so it's hard to be outraged. Did it happen four years ago, Like CRZ said? Was it "private", that is, not officially for public consumption?
You see, when a politicial "officially" has a moral lapse, like if they're in the middle of an interview that is going to be published in a magazine, major or not, that's an issue. Becuase then it seems like their official stance is that it's OK.
This clip looked to me as if the President was goofng around (I suspect I could more accurately say "The Governor") while they were doing a sound check. Not unlike when The Great Communicatior said we were going to start bombing Russia in 5 minutes. Not perfect, sure. A little problematic, maybe. An issue? I don't think so.
No more than if I heard about one of the candidates calling someone a name in a more or less private way. If Bush said, from the stump, in a speech, "Hey, that Kerry's an ass", that might be a different story.
I guess that, for me, it lets me know that Bush isn't perect - which I knew - and that it's interesting what people drag up during a presidential race. | Teppan-Yaki

Bush flipping the bird, reminds me of something Mic Foley said recently in an interview. He thinks George Bush is wanting to be Stone Cold Steve Austin so much, with the swagger & Texas attitude. Now we see him giving middle finger salutes, Foley is so observant lol. | FurryHippie

As I said, that's true enough. But it's when someone goes on the record, so to speak with profanity or adultery or any other moral lapse that seems a bit problematic to me.
Take Clinton. He had NO intention of anyone catching him. I don't have a particular problem with him dallying with Monica. His wife should, of course. But he wasn't intending to tell people it was OK to have extra-marital sexual relations. Most of the cursing you hear about with Pols (like the Bush finger or the "he's a real asshole" statement from awhile back, or the chaney line to whoever it was earlier this year) is not intended for public consumption. But the article in RS WAS. And that's the issue, for me. |
