Crayola announced the names of the colors in the new State Colors (crayola.com) collection yesterday. CA Sacra-mint-o, NC Grape Hatteras, TX Alamo a la mode, VT Maple Syrup and my favorite name, TN Tennesienna just to name a few. Of course my home state, NJ, got jobbed once again - the self proclaimed Garden State got New Jersey Boardwalk. It's dirty brown and people walk all over it.

Maine is "Maine Lobster Red?" Damn. Lobsters are only red once you kill them. In the wild, they're dark green. They should have gone with some sort of pine tree green, since there are about 79 billion pine trees in this state.

Well, I guess it beats New Jersey, though!

A-maize-ing Iowa? Nobody has called corn "maize" since that phony Indian on that corn starch commercial did back in the 70's. Bravo, Crayola. Very creative.

Pennsylvania is Independence Indigo. I guess that's ok, considering everything state-related is that color (flag, logo, etc...). We love our blues.

Considering there are FOUR colors (red, white, yellow, & black for those not in the know) in our state flag, you'd think they'd chose one of them for the crayon.

I agree with you. BOO!

I was pleased to see DC got a crayon. If they didn't, I'd expect Mayor Williams to be up in arms, because you KNOW they concentrate on the important things in the beltway. Sigh.

(In a note that is in no way related to crayons, he's gonna fuck-up getting the Expos. It's far from a done deal.)

It should be noted that the color names were in fact picked from submissions in a contest. So it was grade school kids who came up with the names.

"Moovalous Cheese"? ***sigh***

Badger gray maybe, UW Wisconsin red...but CHEESE?

We've learned NOTHING since Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley. Please tell me these weren't Wisconsin school kids that came up with this....ugh.

FLORIDA-"Aligator Alley Green". Meh.

I was personally hoping for "Miami China White", but try explaining THAT to the kiddies. :)

Florida - guess Orange was taken? Felony Guilty is probably the 2nd Place Ribbon

Delaware - Fuchsia? If that ain't telling a story...never mind

PA - at least it resembles Black and Blue

Maryland - guess they don't have a "Baltimore" color...Kiwi...ha ha ha

Pieman (or anyone else with hoo-dlum-s) - we need to move to Washington (State)! Looks the easiest to wash off the walls...and where is the cruel metallic object that sharpens?

Kentucky - Fort Knox Gold

Not bad. They also could have used Bluegrass (one of their Blue/Green or Green/Blues) or Horseshit Brown.

(why'd I go with hi-res?)

"Connecticut Nutmeg". What was this, if you can't find anything, use the nickname? -_-

North Carolina gets "Grape Hatteras," purple.

Montana gets "Big Sky," baby blue.

It's called "Tarheel Blue" for a reason, you imbecilic little shits. Montana barely deserves to be a state, much less have a crayon.

Indianappleous Red. Why red? I always thought that god don't make little GREEN apples and it don't rain in Indianapolis..

When did Pureto Rico officially become a state? That'll confuse the little chits.
