| #1 Posted on 10.10.04 2142.47 Reposted on: 10.10.11 2145.08 | So the KOTR tourney has been gone for about 2 years now...
In a way to spark interest in "cross-promotional" matches, wouldn't it be a good idea for each brand to hold qualifying KOTR matches on their show, leading up to the PPV...
So, RAW has 8 wrestlers in four matches, as does Smackdown!...when it's down to the last 2 wrestlers from each show they have their match at the PPV...then the winners of each match (1 from RAW, 1 from Smackdown!) meet in the finals of the overall tourney to be crowned KOTR for that year...
They can use it as a dominance trophy or something, like an Olympic pride deal where a wrestler gets to represent their company against the "competition." It reminds me of the Super J Cup...
That way it would be different, and maybe it would spark some more interest at a dead time in the season (usually summer time)... | Promote this thread! | | Gugs

The KOTR is a classic example of a good idea that for some reason (usually poorly-booked brackets) never gets to be as good as it could be.
I'd love to see it come back, though, for no other reason than to make sure we don't have a third less-than-stellar HIAC match at Bad Blood. | TL_Hopper

I think now would be a good time to reinstate the KoTR, as you could pretty much book the tournament to lead to one big interpromotional dream match, like, for instance Cena vs. Orton...or, more likely, something like Garrison Cade vs. Heidenreich. So in conclusion, fuck the King of the Ring. | Packman V2

Takes care of a lot of time for a PPV, and could be used like before, to give a boost to a midcarder they've been needing to find a reason to elevate.
I never understood why they did away with it in the first place. | XPacArmy

Yea I agree with the idea to bring it back but I like it the was Packman has it. Only for the 4 openers make 2 RAW and 2 Smackdown and let it go tell you have RAW vs Smackdown in the final. Have it like this:
ROUND 1 RAW vs RAW RAW vs RAW Smackdown vs Smackdown Smackdown vs Smackdown
ROUND 2 RAW vs RAW Smackdown vs Smackdown
ROUND 3 RAW vs Smackdown | Hogan's My Dad

That being how it would make lopsided the number of PPVs, since you'd have 5 joint shows, leaving an odd number of brand specifics. However, since nowadays they are adding extra brand-specific shows seemingly at random (Great American Bash, Tattoo Tuesday)why not? It could be smoothed out for parity, and we'd get a classic format back. | XPacArmy

Or they could make it their version of WCW's Clash Of The Champions and air it once a year on a little channel called USA Ne...t..work...oh I mean Spike TV! Hell, USA (and Scifi) were just sold to NBC, and we all know how tight NBC and WWE are. A once a year WWE special on USA would rock! But I am not holding my breath for it. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
