I'd really like to keep the chrome dome look going, but I'd be curious to know if there was any alternative to taking a razor to my head once every week. Does something like NAIR exist for men's skulls?
Thank you guys; you're all amazing folks!

If you can get past the possibility of whacking off one of your ears, use a straight razor. That's what I preferred when I shaved my head and it worked quite well. Nice and smooth. Just be really, really careful. | Oliver

Wash head with hot water. Put some Baby oil on your head (not a ton, just enough to moisten it). Apply lotion (cheap lotion is FINE for this) and use a new razor, the Mach 3 is my weapon of choice. Shave from front to back on the top, then bottom up, in the back. Rinse razor every few strokes, to keep excess lotion/stubble buildup to a minimum. Rinse hands off, and while they are wet, run head and wherever you feel stubble still, shave VERY SLOWLY in the oposite direction you shaved the first time. Keeps teh head nice and smooth. I shave mine every 3-4 days, and it never gets to more than 1/8th of an inch.
The creams and lotions that will remove hair will tear your skin up with chemical burns because you cannot get it off fast enough usually. | Oliver

(Depilatories are awful. Despite the cute "Nair for short shorts" commercials, they smell awful, sting, leave rashes & irritation, & often don't work all that well removing the hair. If you'd ever met one, you'd instantly realise that you wouldn't want to get any of those anywhere *near* your face! If depilatories worked, women would *not* wax!) | Dr. Ed Powers

That being said, I sometimes shave my head with a Venus Devine razor--since its made to shave a woman's sensitive areas (among other things) it causes waaay less razor burn. I also shave WITH the grain.
Also there is this cool thing called a Headblade that seems to be all the rage: (image removed)
I can't use it as it is to be used against the grain, but I have friends who swear by it--once a day while in the shower. I tend to shave my head every 3 days. | sonicslapshot

The good thing about the lotion, especially if you apply a little baby oil first, is that the razor will GLIDE right over it, and it doesnt get stuck between the blades, making rinsing easier, which makes it more time efficient. ANd, you can use any old cheap lotion, I use the stuff from the $1.00 aisle at our local grocery store. Works just fine! | Oliver

| #15 Posted on 7.10.04 0035.05 Reposted on: 7.10.11 0035.23 | I'm down to shaving my head every four days now, so that way, I have some noticable stubble there, so it's not too hard to miss. I shave my face every two days (it's good to be a blond haired fellow) and every other shave, it's the full effect.
I've been using a Mach3 blade (not the Turbo or M3 varieties) as my weapon of choice, and it's worked quite well. I've enjoyed what it's done, but the worst part...it grows back. :-)

| #16 Posted on 10.10.04 0830.55 Reposted on: 10.10.11 0831.11 | I've been shaving my head for about six years now almost everyday. I have to do it often cause my hair grows in dark and thick. Anyway as an experiment last week I shaved half my head with a Mach 3 Razor and the other half with the M3 Razor. Not surprisingly there wasn't really much of a difference except that it just seemed easier with the M3.
Tune in next week when I try two different shaving gels on my head. | Packman V2
