Did anybody happen to catch this doc on HBO? It was pretty good. It was pretty emotional, obviously. It reminded me of something that was easy for me to forget: that the 01 World Series was probably the greatest ever. I'm not a Yankees fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not a hater either. It was pretty easy for me to get behind the D-backs. First of all, Curt Schilling is my second favorite pitcher ever. But more than that, I believed in the principle that we didn't *need* the Yankees to win to pull through the aftermath of 9/11. Watching the doc made me realize just how strong baseball can be as an American institution and it made me remember how strong it was in uniting people.

I didn't know if this was public knowledge, but I had no idea that there was a Secret Service agent, armed to the freakin teeth, disguised as an umpire out on the field as Bush threw the first pitch of Game 3.

Jeter to Bush: don't bounce it, they'll boo you.

The series itself couldn't have been scripted any better (and I guess there are those who do believe it was scripted).

-The home team won every game.
-The Yanks couldn't touch Schilling or Johnson.
-The D-backs couldn't touch Clemens.
-There were, not one, but two (back to back) miraculous, "there's a higher power at work here" 9th inning comebacks for the Yanks. Or from a different perspective, Kim blows two 9th inning leads as he succumbs to pressure of facing the Yanks in the WS.
-The D-backs brought the Yanks back to reality (by way of a brick wall) in Game 6.
-The main event in Game 7: Clemens vs Schilling. Of course, Curt wasn't quite at his best being that this was his third start in 9 days. But that's why you have the Big Unit (congrats to him by the way).
-Kim's sins being absolved as the best closer ever in the postseason shows that he really is human.

You'll never forget the 01 Series. But for some reason, I needed to be reminded of how great the actual baseball was.

I missed the HBO special, but I will look for them to replay it.

I have to agree that the baseball itself was just phenomenal that year, even though I'm a Yankee fan and think the wrong team won.

But at least I forever have the joy of Aaron Boone for best playoff series ever.

I was enjoying the doc, until Liza Maneli (sp) reared her double chin.
