Another one of my icons from a misspent youth gone. What a way to start a day.

RIP

It's down to one, Tommy. Joey and DeeDee have already passed.

RIP Johnny Ramone.

Tommy's the only original left, although Marky and CJ were both in the band longer than Tommy I believe.

Marky's playing in a band using the name "Misfits" now with Jerry Only (Misfits) and Dez Cadena (Black Flag), but believe me, it's nowhere near as good as the original (or even the late 90's) Misfits. Don't know what CJ is doing now.

I am beginning to feel old and mortal.

I remember the first time I saw the Ramones live. I saw them several times over the years, but the first time was sometime in 1982. Front row being smashed up against the stage. Snagged two picks from Dee Dee. We were so close, you could touch them. I have never felt that kind of pure energy at any other time.

I know this board talks a lot about what kind of influences certain bands had. Having seen the Ramones so many times live, I can attest that their music colors most everything I listen to now. When I hear something of today's music, I hear a lot of their influence. Though I must say that I listen most to punk and new wave acts from the 70s and 80s almost exclusively.

Anyhow, I was saddened to hear of Johnny's passing and wanted to post something so y'all would know that this pinhead will always think of the Ramones fondly.

Oh dude please. The Jerry/Cadena/Marky lineup destroys the Michale Graves version. I don't listen to the Misfits to hear Doyle play big crunchy guitars. The Project 1950 covers album was a hell ot of a lot more enjoyable than the god awful bad American Psycho or the nearly-as-god-awful-bad Famous Monsters (which was saved to any extent only by "Saturday Night", which is a good song). Graves had a great voice but the problems were (1) he isn't Danzig and (2) they all learned to play their instruments over the 15 years before the '97 comeback album, and that just ruined the whole thing.

EDIT: But I mean, you know, agree to disagree. Just offering a different opinion if anyone is interested (highly unlikely, I admit)

I second that. I got it because I was a starting Danzig fan and wanted to hear his former band and Vampiro was using the track 1 (Enter Kong?) as his WCW music.

That album has two good things going for it. 1) Saturday Night, as ScottChrist has said, and 2) The album art. It was the inspiration for my corpse paint as seen right here in my avy.

Yeah, that album sucks ass.

Down to the last Ramone.

I read at filter-mag.com that a tribute concert is in the works, involving the Strokes and others
