I never would have thought that I would have been on the left, especially not even being near the center.

First, let me state for the record that I can't believe it's been almost two years since we last did this. OK; then:

Economic Left/Right: 1.38 (Right)

Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.03 (Libertarian)

Now:

Economic Left/Right: 0.38 (Right)

Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.36 (Libertarian)

If I'm reading these numbers correctly, it seems I'm more in line with the political center than was the case two years ago. The Economic move towards the Center is exactly one point. Perhaps I've changed my answer on one key question from two years ago? Maybe; maybe not. Perhaps as I grow older gravity is drawing me closer and closer to the center. On the other hand, maybe my views aren't changing and moving closer to the political center; perhaps it's the political center that's changing and moving closer to my way of thinking. Yes, that makes much more sense. 8)

Economic Left/Right: 3.00
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.28

Now:

Economic Left/Right: 0.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.77

Although I feel this is probably the difference between me Strongly Agreeing last time and simply Agreeing this time.

Seems I've mellowed with age.

Two years ago:
Economic Left/Right: 7.75
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -1.08

Today:
Economic Left/Right: 4.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.15

I do wonder how they score this.

Economic Left/Right: -6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.46

Close to Gandhi.. and scarily, Al Sharpton!

(Note on the Presidential candidates chart, John Edwards is closer to GWB than JFK... interesting.)

Basically, Stagger, it means that you believe the government ought to stay out of the economy for the most part, but in a few things, it's ok (like certain tarrifs and some limited protectionism and monopoly protection). Otherwise, let the market go. As opposed to the far negative numbers that think the government should control the economy by redistribution or that goverment should have no role at all (large positive).

and, you think that a good government has to exact some authority over its citizenry - like having laws and so on and the authority to exact punishment when those laws are broken. As opposed to capricious lawkeeping found in totalitarianism (large positive) or free and groovy love. (big negative)

Make sense? Same basic numbers for me. Slightly higher on authoritarian. (I voted BIG for the death penalty)

Look like I'm one that hasn't mellowed with age. Or it might just be that the RNC last week got me in a real pissy "fuck the man" mood.

Hey, I STRONGLY AGREED with the Death Penalty too and I wound up with a -3.54 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian rating. I even agreed that some criminals are past the point of rehabilitation.

I think it may have been my strong answers on those sex and religion questions that might have shifted me.

Still more or less the same. My main thing to bitch about is the death penalty. What's the point of paying to keep somebody in prison for life when you can just put a bullet in their head and use that money to help the homeless or create new jobs?

Economic Left/Right: -3.88

I'm in the same real estate as the Dali Lama...so I got THAT going for me. Which is nice.

THEN:

(and a really cool peace sign pretzel avatar)

NOW:
Economic Left/Right: -6.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.51

I have no idea how I went so far to the left economically, although it seems like I actually went a tad bit to the right socially - though I'm still left of everyone here. Different questions, different times.

The questions don't give you NEARLY enough room for maneuver, but whatever.

Economic: 0.00
Social: -3.13

So I don't even get a quadrant.
