ESPN is reporting (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=240903110) that Kevin Brown broke his left hand punching a wall during a loss Friday night.

I just can't help but laugh at anyone who is stupid enough to do this or anything like it.

Channeling the spirit of Jose Maria Olazabal, it would seem. Guess this counts for Kevin Brown's horrid injury of the year. Although it is pretty funny.

You know, this kind of stupid stuff doesn't usually happen to the Yankees. This is the kind of stuff that seemingly ALWAYS happens to a team about to face the NYY in the playoffs. Perhaps the baseball gods are about to unleash some payback on the pinstripes.

I wonder if Joaquin Andujar will send Brown a note of support.
This is something a Red Sox player would do during an implosion, not a Yankee. But, this does mean that Loiza will get more than just that 1 start during the Tampa doubleheader on Monday, and, even better, Tanyan Sturtze will get at least 1 start during a pennant race.

And with those guys having to start games for the Yanks, that also means more relief work for Gordon, Quantrill, and more 2-inning appearances for Rivera.

The Dodger Stadium toilet has finally gained some measure of revenge on Kevin Brown.

You gotta believe the baseball gods are smiling on Boston this year. IMO, I can't see the Yanks making it to the Series with that starting pitching.

Yeah the starting has been woeful this year. They've got one complete game and Brown, Mussina, Vazquez, and Lieber have all been disappointing. Plus that bullpen is gonna blow up by the time of the playoffs. $194 M well spent, George!

The baseball gods smiled and said, "Let's show everyone how much of a pussy the commish is by making Tampa 5 hours late for the game, since he would NEVER make them actually forfeit a game! And in the bargain, the Yanks won't have to trot out Loaiza! Woohoo!"

Last 6 starts:
IP H R ER BB K
O. Hernandez (W, 6-0) 7.0 3 1 1 2 7
J. Lieber (W, 10-8) 7.0 6 0 0 1 3
K. Brown (L, 10-4) 6.0 5 3 3 2 7
M. Mussina (L, 9-9) 7.0 7 2 2 0 8
J. Vazquez 7.0 6 3 3 3 8
O. Hernandez (W, 7-0) 7.0 4 2 2 1 5

All six quality starts, even with stupid Kevin Brown hitting the wall. No doubt, this team has had insanely inconsistant starting, and its quite telling with Hernandez being the guy, right now, who would start your first playoff game. They do, however, have 3 great pitchers, plus Lieber and Brown. Brown will probably miss 1 start, possibly 2, and be back to normal. As contrite as he has been since, and as pissed off as everyone else is at him, more fuel for his fire to work harder to get back into the games.

Hopefully also, ARod is saving himself for the postseason...

Not sure how you missed this...http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1875307 .

He's out three weeks. I'm guessing that's more like 4-5 starts, and in the middle of a pennant race, no less.

I didn't miss it, its just a matter of going with what some of the YES Network/WCBS personel report, as opposed to AP writers who don't follow the team every single day. The impression that I got was two starts, tops. It could all be crap and change on a dime, but thats the local speculation, anyway.

Now he's moved on from imitating Andujar to imitating former Cardinals starter John Tudor, who once punched out a fan (as in stationary air-producing device, not spectator) after getting shelled in Game 7 of the 1985 World Series, or as one sportswriter put it about Tudor (who was about as loved among sportswriters as Brown is), "the shit hit the fan"

AND to boot he has a no-hitter on his resume ala Bob Forsch. All he has to do now is grow Danny Cox's 1970's porn mustache and he's done a full tribute to the the 1985 Cardinals rotation. :)
