From Silvervision:

"E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!"
- a chant heard in arenas around the world.

ECW: Extreme Championship Wrestling redefined professional wrestling in the '90s with a reckless, brutal, death-defying, and often bloody style that came to be known as "hardcore". It attracted a rabid, cult-like following that is still going strong today.

This 6-hour, 2-disc set follows the rise and eventual demise of the company that raiused the bar and revolutionised sports-entertainment forever.

DVD Extras:
Seven bonus matches, including:

The Pit Bulls vs. Raven & Stevie Richards
2 out of 3 Falls Dog Collar Match for
ECW World Tag Team Championship
Gangsta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA - 16.09.95

Rey Mysterio Jr vs. Psichosis
2 out of 3 Falls
Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 17.10.95

Mikey Whipwreck vs. The Sandman
Ladder Match for ECW Championship
Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA - 28.10.95

2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu
ECW World Television Championship Match
CyberSlam - Philadelphia, PA - 17.02.96

Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven
WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA - 06/06.97
(Alternate Commentary)

Tazz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
ECW World Television Championship Match
Living Dangerously - Asbury Park, NY - 01.03.98
(Alternate Commentary)

Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn
ECW World Television Championship Match
Hardcore Heaven - Poughkeepsie, NY - 16.05.99
(Alternate Commentary)

Steven Richards Apologises for Leaving ECW

Tazz Seeks Paul Heyman's Blessing

Paul Heyman: Travel Agent

-------------------------

Not bad, I guess, by ECW standards. Most of these matches were on the Pioneer DVDs, so I'm sure there's going to be some disappointment. Anybody know if "Tazz Seeks Paul Heyman's Blessing" was Taz's tirade from November 2 Remember 1995? If so, I'm there.

That match list stinks. Weird that they chose the Hardcore Heaven RVD/Lynn match over the Living Dangerously one, which was much better. But I've never seen that Rey/Psicosis match and the feature is really enough to get me to buy it anyway. I do find it somewhat odd that there's going to be a DVD made and it will likely have extensive contributions from Tommy Dreamer and Stevie Richards, lending insight.

Not only that, they probably could have picked some more historic matches, if they're trying to sell a true history of ECW. I mean, my exposure to ECW was limited to the TNN show and a handful of DVD's, but even I know that they should have added:

- Shane Douglas Vs. Scorpio, ending the ties to the NWA and turning Eastern Championship Wrestling into Extreme.
- Terry Funk Vs. Sandman Vs. Stevie Richards from Barely Legal
- Taz vs. Sabu from Barely Legal
- Cactus Jack Vs. Terry Funk (not sure the show)
- Taz vs. Mike Awesome (because of the WWF-WCW-ECW significance)
- The whole Rhino-Sandman-RVD-Jerry Lynn match from the final ECW PPV (Guilty As Charged?)

I'm sure I'm missing dozens of others, but you get the point. I'm sure Rey Vs. Psychosis was a good match and everything, but at least show some of the matches that have significance on the promotion....

Am I missing the parts about Shane Douglas and New Jack? Those two were big parts of ECW from my experience, as well.

Am I wrong, or was that just a list of "bonus" matches? There will be other matches available, will there? Yes, no, maybe?

Nope, Alessandro, those are the matches given. I think they're extras, while the main program is your WWE-ized summary of ECW.

Actually, it's interesting that there's NO Shane Douglas matches at all.

The Douglas/NWA angle might have been a dilemma. On one hand, it's a chance to really trash the world title of their only national rival. On the other, it really was Shane Douglas' biggest moment, and I don't think anyone in WWE is in a great hurry to glorify that guy. It woulda been cool to include, but the match isnt' that hard to track down if you really want it.

The match selections are questionable, but I think given the library they have we could question just about any match list they put out. I'm more interested in the main story of this DVD, the actual "story" of ECW and how they present it. I have Bash at the Beach '96, so I don't really need Mysterio vs. Psychosis. If you've seen Mikey vs. Sandman once you've seen it all. The main substance of the DVD will be what I buy it for.

I was thinking the same thing. In the other WWE DVD's I have, they do discuss & cover certain mathes/events pretty thoroughly without actually showing the entire match as a bonus.

If this is a 6 hour DVD as mentioned, that handful of 7 extra matches does not make up 6 hours; or 5 or 4, depending on how long the "story" part of the DVD is.

Those are the extra matches and I will assume that during the story part of the DVD they will show highlights of matches and then the full matches they show highlights of will also be included as "extras" of sorts.

Definitely agreed, *but*...

"I have Bash at the Beach '96, so I don't really need Mysterio vs. Psychosis."

Not a bad list of matches. It's just that a lot of these matches can be found on the old Pioneer DVDs. Would have been nicer if they put some different stuff on this.

I'm amazed that the Hardcore Heaven '99 match between Van Dam and Lynn is always chosen. I actually think that that's the worst match of their feud. Living Dangerously '99, Hardcore Heaven 2000, and even their TNN matches are much better as they don't involve so much stalling.

I'm pretty sure Hardcore Heaven is always the match they use because none of the other matches almost killed Jerry Lynn. Hardcore Heaven is the one where Lynn split his head like five minutes in, and then wrestled the rest of the match.

It's also possible that Hardcore Heaven was chosen because WWE superstar RVD won straight-up. At Living Dangerously, WWF castaway Jerry Lynn was going to be given the title, and RVD was booked to have gotten very lucky to hang onto it in the end. You never know about the reasoning of some things.

There is so much from ECW I would love to have on DVD and have commentary on. The Sandman v Raven Fued (forget Dreamer, Raven was the shit in this angle!), The Triple Threat, Sabu v Taz, Taz whipping Awesome's ass after he went to WCW, any of the insane Japanese lucha shit they had on, Bam Bam Bigelo throwing Spike into the crowd, and the crowd passing him along around the arena, Van Dam v Bigelo, a couple of Eliminators matches or New Jack and Mustafa, where they just murder people in the cage, even Buellah v Fonzie, if for nothing but Fonzie's disgusting blade job, and, last, but not least (Joey Stiles Voice) "The night Kimona Wanalea danced atop the ECW arena".

Plus, all the Cactus Jack promos you can cram into one DVD. And, some of the old Taz ones, where he made you believe that a 5 ft 8 man just may be able to wreck anybody in ECW.

I was curious if anyone would call for the Taz/Awesome match...a pretty historic match in it's own right, even if not one of the greatest matches ever...also kinda makes you wonder if Vince thought then he might be possibly owning WCW, letting one of his own against one of the newly acquired WCW guys??

That was almost an entire year before Vince bought WCW, although the idea of buying it was first presented to him in November 2000, at the time including the TNT and TBS timeslots as is, but an exclusivity deal with Viacom prevented it from happening until the shows were cancelled in March.

Bringing in Tazz to beat Mike Awesome was Heyman getting back at WCW and Awesome since they signed the ECW champion and were going to have him bury ECW on that first Russo/Bischoff Nitro, before Heyman lawyered up and prevented it. So part of the agreement was that Awesome would have to come back and job the title, so to rub it in WCW and Awesome's face, they squashed him with a WWF guy.

It kind of blew up in ECW's face when WWF put Tazz and the ECW Title on their TV and said something like he went out and won the ECW world title on his day off. Then he lost a match to Crash Holly -- without getting pinned, but giving the perception that that's the level that the ECW world champion is at in the grand scheme of things.

Do you remember what date that RAW appeared? I dont remember that at all (not doubting your word that it happened, however).
