| #1 Posted on 31.8.04 0151.23 Reposted on: 31.8.11 0152.38 | A while ago someone posted a piece of writing attributed to George Carlin in here. The piece was called, "I am a Bad American." I think CRZ banished the thread because because it was just pasted in without context or commentary and meant nothing, really, but it bothered me when I read it because it just didn't sound like Carlin to me, and I've been a huge fan of his for decades.
It didn't sound like Carlin because the things said in this piece were completely opposite to his usual philosophy and ethics. Where Carlin has always been rather anti-establishment and edgy, this piece was fairly reactionary and stuffy and, well, just a little too Charlton Heston and not enough George Carlin.
Here's the piece: http://www.georgecarlin.com/georgecarlin/home/bogus.html
Well, much to my relief, the real George Carlin did not write this piece of crap! Phew! Here's what the real George Carlin has to say about it: http://www.georgecarlin.com/georgecarlin/home/dontblame.html

Took the words right out of my mouth--I read snopes.com every day, being a confirmed skeptic.
The worst thing about the Net, other than viruses and spyware, is endless forwards of some urban legend so stupid you would have to be an infant to believe it; for some reason, when people see an assertion in writing, many of them figure it just HAS to be for real...
