I'm sure Kerry was contrasting his service with Bush's, which I consider to be fine in a campaign. Dole and Bush Sr. did it to Clinton, and they were both valid points at the time.

There isn't anything wrong with saying "I have more military experience than my opponent." It's when a candidate invalidates his opponent's service, as both Democrats and Republicans have done in this election, where there are problems.

In the quotes above, I don't think there was any implication that Bush "chickened out" of combat, nor went AWOL. Kerry, as a combat veteran in Vietnam, said that he didn't look down upon anyone who avoided combat. I don't believe Kerry could ever look down on someone who avoided going to a war he himself condemned.

Is he placing himself above Bush in those quotes? Yes. But, he is not saying Bush was a coward in the above statements.

SKLOKAZOID, if you dont see him relating people serving in the gaurd to people who ran to Canada in those quotes, then we just infer different things when we read it. NO problems there.

Like I said, I could care less about a candidates Military service. Or what College he went to. Or about him getting out of the military early to work on a political campaign. Or the fact that he was in the Skull and Bones.

Amazing how all the stuff that happened thirty years ago, are common to both candidates.

Kerry wants to "repeal tax cuts" which means, make you and I pay more taxes.

Kerry wants to hand over american troops to UN powers, to do the UN's will.

Kerry wants to give everybody universal healthcare, which I have a problem with on many, many levels.

Kerry keeps stating he has "a clear vision" of what he wants to do, but never actually qualifies that statement with a detailed plan.

Kerry wants to go to the UN, within his first 100 days in office, and make sure the US appologizes for undertaking the Iraqi invasion without thier consent.

Kerry wants to do a lot of things, that personally, I dont agree with.

If you think Intellegence and military spending went in the crapper when Clinton was President, just wait for John Kerry's version of a budget gets passed.

StaggerLee, shame on you for trying to discuss the issues that will affect our lives instead of things that happened over thirty years ago.

    1. I believe that the President said Kerry served "honorable" and "nobly." Showing up for work is not heroic.

    2. Just becuase you do something heroic does mean that you aren't a lying piece of shit.

    3. The majority of people who served with Kerry, who would know if would be heroic, think he's a lying piece of shit.

    4. Thank you for proving my point about the apologists...

"Showing up for work is not heroic"

Then what would you classify someone who had his rich daddy set him up with a no-risk placement in the Alabama national guard so he could skip Vietnam, only to not even show up to THAT and instead blow off his service to attend business school?

Hypocrisy is a wonderful thing.

He didnt blow off anything. He was allowed to leave early. Just like John Kerry was. He served, did his time, the plane he was certified to fly was decomissioned. What's he going to do? Get in a hang glider and drop water ballons on the Viet Cong?

Perhaps...you could have wondered that to yourself.
