| #1 Posted on 23.8.04 1134.20 Reposted on: 23.8.11 1137.06 | I know the soda threads usually pop up here once in a while, so I thought I'd let eveyone know about the two new Mountain Dews if they haven't had a chance to try them yet.
The first up is Mountain Dew: Baja Blast, and it is a Taco Bell exclusive. Yes, Taco Bell has an exclusive soda. This was described in ads as a lime tasting soda despite its blue color. However, I thought it had more of a berry taste to it, which would explain the blue color (not that the artificial colors have any bearing on taste). Overall pretty good, but I don't know if it will make it to store shelves.
Since they already had one new offering I figured that we wouldn't be seeing any other new Mountian Dews this year. but low and behold I walked into Target yestereday only to discover Mountian Dew: Pitch Black. Now this I was intrigued by. It's in a cool black/silver/puerple bottle, and says that its Mountian Dew with a blast of black grape flavor. The first few sips didn't grab me, but it really grew on me. I've even gone back to buy a couple more bottles. Good stuff if you like Mountian Dew and grape soda. Plus, they get extra points for the cool package. Now if they could just put out a good diet version like Code Red's. One negative is that the bottle claims it to be a "limited edition." But if sales go well I'm sure it will get a permenant spot in the grocwery store- just look how Livewire was supposed to be a Summer 2003 exclusive.

Baja Blast on the other hand tastes EXCATLY like Jack Daniels Down Home Punch without the hint of alcohol. I liked it much better than Pitch Black.
Livewire, I guess will now be a full time Mountain Dew. I noticed around here they took the Summer Only off the packaging. I like Livewire, so I was happy to see that. | BongHitter

Ah yes i remember blue pepsi. Even with CVS selling it 2/.79 I still couldn't bring myself to buy it. It was bad, and now it is gone. Good riddance blue, empty store shelves will miss you.

Pitch Black is alright, but the taste is almost overwhelming. Either way, more varieties of the Dew can never be a bad thing!

Well, tasting like cough syrup would explain my liking. I grew up *wanting* to get sick so I could get Dimetapp- it's a grape flavored cold/cough etc. medicine for kids. Man, that stuff was good.
I think I just have a habit of taking to sodas that most people hate. I was addicted to Pepesi Blue in the summer of '02. I think I was the only person I knew that could even stand the stuff. I really wish I could still get my hands on it.
I better stock up on Pitch Black before it goes the way of Pepsi Blue. Hopefully the Mountain Dew name will be enough to maintain enough popularity to stay in production. | dwaters

I feel ya on the cough medicine tip. As a kid, I wanted to get sick rather frequently so I could get Orange flavored Triamenic. It tasted better than any drink to me. So maybe I would like Pitch Black. | Teppan-Yaki

I read about this stuff a week or so ago and tried Pitch Black. It's ok, but not on the level of Code Red or Livewire. It's mainly a holiday thing(Halloween), so it'll be gone at the end of October.
Here's the article:

It also mentions another new flavor, but of regular Pepsi with ginger and cinnamon. Ummmm, ick.

If you're looking for good cinnamon flavor in your cola...try Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball (whisky w/ no I, with a cinnamon kick) and Coke.

I hit the tap, just put a small amount in the cup, tasted it, and poured it out. Far too sweet for me. Like candy.
The idea of exclusive sodas for fast food joints is kind of cool, though. I see Quizno's and Jimmy John's are now selling their own trademark branded chips to go with your sandwiches. Why not try some unique sodas. | J. Kyle

Agreed! To many new Dew's! My brother doesn't even call them Mountain Dew because they aren't like the orginal soda.
Pitch Black - Reminds me slighly of Josta...anybody remember that one?
Baja Blast Mt. Dew - Somebody told me it was like drinking a margarita. I liked it. It's a bit different from everything else.
Livewire - I can stay up ALL NIGHT on that stuff. Talk about SPIKED Orange.
Pepsi Blue - Strangely Different...crappy too.
Dr Pepper Fusion - Started growing on me before it disappeard.
I almost half expect something to come out tommorrow with some kind of long funky name or mabe a Mad TV parody of all these new soda's. |
