Nope, thankfully they buried the Raw franchise.

For better or worse, they are moving the Gamecube Wrestlemania franchise to XBox for next year. Those games weren't that great either, but I'll take anything over another Raw game at this point.

So they're not coming out with one this year. If not, I'll just get Day of Reckoning

What didnt you understand? RAW title in video game form no longer exists.

The Gamecube will now have WWE: named games (ie: Day of Rekoning) and PS2 will beginning with this year have SD! vs RAW. The Wrestlemania titled games is now going to appear on X-Box beginning this March/April with Wrestlemania 21.

That horrible game engine from 'Anchor' of RAW1 & RAW2 will no longer be played since THQ fired Anchor the developers. We shall see what kind of an engine we get for Mania 21. It's possible for AKI to make the gam engine if THQ wants them too. AKI isn't owned by EA who makes the DefJam games, they are just under contract to make that game (DefJam) as AKI also made the Ultimate Muscle games which suck though.

AKI would be rather nice to see come back, but having played Smackdown!; HCTP, I think hearkening for the AKI engine is more a cry of nostalgia than anything else.

For those of you with the luxury to do so, play a match on HCTP, then on No Mercy. See how much faster HCTP is by comparison? For it's time, the AKI engine was the best it could be, but now that people have gotten more accustomed to analog stick use, maybe it's best sleeping dogs lie.

Smackdown has always had the fastest wrestling engine. Not everyone prefers that because it makes the game seem too arcadey. I played the Raw engines a lot and got quite used to them, so I don't mind the slower pace. I don't know what to expect from Studio Gigante, who's one game (Tao Feng) was pretty much overlooked by everyone. We'll have to wait longer to see what's coming from the co-creator of Mortal Kombat (John Tobias).

As for AKI and THQ, don't count on them getting back together. Despite the success of the N64 wrestling games, the two sides broke off their business relationship for one reason or another. Rumors indicate the fault lies on THQ for this. THQ has stuck with Yukes for their Sony and Nintendo wrestling games this generation, and has been trying to get Yukes to replicate the AKI control scheme that Nintendo gamers loved so much.

Personally, Def Jam Vendetta > Smackdown. AKI updated their engine and it was great.
