I don't know how I feel about this Murtz Jaffer guy from Inside Pulse. The first time he threw me off was in a recent Flea column, where he refused to publicly divulge his age for fear of embarrassing himself and begged Flea not to tell anyone. This made me think that he was definitely 16. However, some very rudimentary research reveals that he just turned 24, which is a bit younger than myself, but I'd be willing to bet older than 75 percent of the writers on that site.

However! This isn't that big a deal. What really got me was two stories posted on the newsboard today. First:

The music for the Orton video vignette sound familiar? Mike M. who runs MavenHuffman.com says that we have heard it before. The theme music used in the video is by a band called "Mercy Drive." The song is titled "Away." For those who recognize the name, that's because it's the same band that does Maven's entrance music currently (the Tough Enough theme as well). According to Mike, the kicker is that this exact song was put up on his website, WWEMaven.com, in a contest to see which song would fit Maven best as new theme music. You can see the archived poll at the following address HERE. What makes this even more stunning is that this was a special promotion setup between Mercy Drive's management team, DeFab Management. I guess creative gets ideas everywhere, including superstar's websites. It's a shame that the song was wasted on one single video vignette. For the record, "Away" came in third with 1528 votes.
I wouldn't blink if this were posted even though it's not news, because sites like IP.com do that sort of thing all the time. But what's with that language? "Even more stunning"? Let me see if I've got this straight: WWE does a video featuring a song by a band they've worked with before, which happened to have been a choice in a poll on an unrelated wrestler's website, and this development is "stunning"?

And then this:

The new contestants for the next Survivor were released yesterday and one of them will be following the footsteps of Jonny Fairplay as he is a wrestler too. The guy's name is Travis "Bubba" Sampson and he wrestled as "Romeo Bliss" in the WWE, NWA, and WCW. He even jobbed to Raven one time. His complete bio is HERE.

Stay tuned to Inside Pulse for more information on Travis Sampson and the rest of the Survivors when the TV Zone debuts in the Fall.

Please credit InsidePulse.com when using this exclusive story.
What a scoop! A washed-up wrestler I've only kind of heard of on Survivor?! Wow, Inside Pulse sure is the place to go for exclusive news! Oh, wait -- it's not exclusive, because that "HERE" you see up there is a link to the official Survivor website, which includes the info about his wrestling career. "Please credit InsidePulse.com" indeed. This is like me reading some political gossip in The New York Times, blogging about it and demanding people credit me for the sizzling-hot news item. (Now imagine the hot gossip is "Kerry Will Campaign During Republicans' Convention" or something fairly mundane like that.)

Plus I'm pretty sure I saw that somewhere else yesterday. And I'm not a frequent user of the official Survivor website.

You know, just keep the bush-league commentary and horn tooting out of my ostensibly straight wrestling news and I'll be a happy man. IP.com is still new -- Murtz has some time not to be the next Dave Scherer. Let's face it -- he's probably reading this. So turn it around! Or I'll start posting that you're 24 everywhere. Imagine how repulsed everybody old enough to rent a car will be.

I'm 99% sure Maven's song is sung by a band called Hoshal, not whoever this guy's claiming.

Well, he certainly broke the story about the music in Orton's video. Except the only problem is that the excerpt of the report was taken word for word from the Torch website. So actually the language was that of Keller or whoever posted that on the Torch site. So he's actually asking for credit on news that he broke by copying and pasting from a more reputable site. Kudos to him for being such an outstanding journalist!

Perhaps if you'd have been *100%* sure you wouldn't have posted and saved us all some trouble.

To slightly threadjack, does Mercy Drive have a CD available? I caught some of those online clips and the band has a great sound. I didn't see a CD for sale, though.

A friend of mine really liked that song on Monday and emailed the band to ask about their CD; he got a reply the next day saying that the group broke up a couple months ago. Doesn't look like a CD will be coming out any time soon.

However, if you're really interested, you can click here to access the Mercy Drive subdirectory on Maven's website and get easily convertible .wma versions of seven or eight of their songs.

It's it "rational"?

Oh, and I really like the band's sound, too. Why do bands that don't suck break up all the time??
